Sunday Sketch I Jocelyn

This week, Joceyln (SC username, cjolson), is sharing her take on our card sketch! Jocelyn's cards are beautifully detailed and we love how she incorporates digital items in her work as well. Be sure to check out her Studio Calico gallery to see more of her gorgeous cards and keep up with her work on her blog and Twitter!

First, let's look at this week's sketches - our 12x12 layout comes from Paige Evan's Lovely Family layout:

And our card sketch comes from Carissa Wiley's Happy Birthday card:

Now let's take a look at Jocelyn's work with the sketches:

"I love the window and the alphas in this sketch, and I knew I wanted to use those elements in my card. Most of my projects include hybrid elements, and I wanted to make a card incorporating some of Studio Calico’s awesome cut files and stamps. I started by stamping the different layers of the globe from the Sugar Rush Project Life stamps (slightly off-setting the green layer). I also used the brushes to stamp the sentiment and trimmed the words to make a new sentiment. One digital technique I love to do is to make my own patterned paper using digital brushes, and I used the mini hearts and “Be awesome” brushes to create new papers. I used the stamped papers to die-cut hearts with the Sugar Rush cut files. I attached all of the elements to die-cut vellum. For the blue paper layer, I enlarged one of the digital Wanderlust journaling cards (love!)."

Supplies: Sugar Rush digital stamps Project Life (globe, mini hearts, “Be awesome” on speech bubble, sentiment), Sugar Rush Love You Always Cut Files (white and yellow heart, heart bubble), Printshop Transparencies (red heart), Printshop 6x6 paper pad (black and white screen paper), Wanderlust Journaling Cards (blue paper), Taxi Mr. Huey’s mist, Dewey Mr. Huey’s mist, vellum, My Favorite Things banner and circle dies, Neat & Tangled Marshmallow sequin

"The strips of paper in the layout sketch are so cool, and I really focused in on the Polaroids and the mix of embellishments. Because of the scale of the card, I decided to keep the starburst lines light and add color in the center of the card. I die-cut the Polaroids and backed them with patterned paper. I love using journaling cards for cards, and I used the Copper Mountain Project Life kit for many of my elements. I fussy cut the hearts out of one of the journaling cards, and I used two of the leftover “Be awesome” hearts to add some movement to the card. There was a preview journaling card in the kit for the Wanderlust collection, and I fussy cut two of the triangles for my card. For the paper layer, I used one of the papers from the Copper Mountain Card Kit."

Supplies: Copper Mountain Project Life (background grid, pink polka dot, red, orange, and pink hearts, asterisk, enamel dot, Wanderlust preview triangles), Copper Mountain Card Kit (chalkboard paper), Sugar Rush digital stamps Project Life (“Be awesome” on heart), Sugar Rush Love You Always Cut Files (white and yellow heart, heart bubble), Antiquary Card Kit Stamps (sentiment), Printshop 6x6 paper pad (black and white screen, text, and pink scallop papers), Mary Mary Mr. Huey’s mist, Taxi Mr. Huey’s mist, Opaque White Mr. Huey’s mist, Inky Black Mr. Huey’s mist, vellum, Ranger Tiny Attacher, My Favorite Things Polaroid dies, Neat & Tangled orange sequin

The sunburst look of Paige's sketch reminded me of a layout by Jen Jockish, so I got out my SC (sunburst) mask and gave it a whirl! Thanks for the sketch challenge!
