Sunday Sketch | Lisa

This week, our layout sketch is an 8.5x11 layout with strips of patterned paper and a large photo. Our card sketch features a circle design & our Project Life sketch uses a collage of squares. Creative Team member, Lisa Truesdell, is joining us this week & sharing her take on our Project Life sketch! Be sure to follow Lisa here at Studio Calico to see more of her work and keep up with her.

First, let's look at this week's sketches - our 8.5x11 layout sketch comes from Celine's Happy Memory layout:

Our card sketch comes from Carissa Wiley's Polka Dot Vellum card:

And our Project Life sketch comes from Tina Aszmus' My Heros spread:

Let's see Lisa's take on the Project Life sketch:

Once I’ve finished making layouts with my kits, I tend to have a lot of scraps of patterned paper. I love making these into Project Life® cards, and I decided to challenge myself to use all three sketches to inspire different pockets on this this page. I started by using the Scrapbook and Project Life® sketches for the top and bottom pockets here. Rather than looking to the sketches to guide where I put both photos and paper, I just used them to build a patterned paper background. To finish each of the cards, I added my photos, a bit of typed journaling, and some small embellishments. The circles on the card sketch then became sequins and a badge in another pocket. I kept the three remaining pockets on the page fairly simple – they offer a nice contrast to the color and patterns in my sketch inspired pockets.

Supplies : Camelot Scrapbook kit (aqua patterned paper), Camelot Project Life® kit (chipboard asterisks, chevron stamp, badge), Guinevere add-on kit (green patterned paper & heart vellum), Excalibur add-on (navy patterned paper, book page), Pip add-on (orange alpha, puffy heart), Tabasco add-on (banner sticker); ink – Color Theory Clean Slate; sequins – Color Theory; other – Tiny Attacher, Becky Higgins Page Protector Design J

Now it's your turn! Make a project using one of this week's sketches as a starting point, then share it in the Studio Calico gallery. Use the hashtag #SCsketch to make it easier for other members to find! Leave us a link to your project by May 19th in the comments here to be entered to win a $5 GC to the Studio Calico Shop.

@gluestickgirl - Great page. How did you do the weather card at the bottom? It's my favorite thing on the page.

I was so apprehensive at even trying this layout sketch! It looks great on Celine's, but I didn't think I could slice my photos in a strip. Found some old pics and I think it turned out pretty well! Here's my take: http://www.studiocalico.com/galleries/124416-outside-lands-2009
