Sunday Sketch | Gillian

This week, our layout sketch is a 12x12 layout with four small photos and a split design. Our card sketch features a row of peeking die cuts and our Project Life sketch uses a 3x4 photo and a circular space for a title. Creative Team member, Gillian Nelson, is joining us this week & sharing her take on our card sketch. Be sure to follow Gillian here at SC to see more of her work and keep up with her.

First, let's look at this week's sketches - our 12x12 sketch comes from Catherine Davis' Summer Snippets layout:

Our card sketch comes from JJ Bolton's Falling Feathers card:

And our Project Life sketch comes from Leena Loh's Week 38 spread:

And here's Gillian's take on our card sketch:

I really enjoy working with sketches, because the work of coming up with a great design has already been done for me. I can just head straight to the fun part of playing with pretty paper. The card sketch this week jumped out at me right away, and I knew exactly how I wanted to put it to use. Instead of stars, I used a bunch of hand-drawn wonky tulips to layer on top of a vertical strip running down the right side of my layout. I used the “make magic” silkscreen from The Underground main scrapbook kit to serve as the “sentiment” in the sketch. All that was left was to add a couple of journaling strips, a label, and wood veneer pieces for the monogram/date. Oh, and a photo. Can’t forget that.

Supplies: cardstock, patterned papers, wood veneer, “make magic” silkscreen, chipboard frame, gold acrylic paint -- The Underground scrapbook kit and add-ons; label -- The Underground Printable Labels by Hello Forever; ink -- StazOn Ink Pad (Jet Black); stapler -- Metal Mini Stapler; pen -- Precision Pen 05 (Black); adhesive -- Martha Stewart Glue Pen

Now it's your turn! Make a project using one of this week's sketches as a starting point, then share it in theStudio Calico gallery. Use the hashtag #SCsketch to make it easier for other members to find! Leave us a link to your project by October 27th in the comments here to be entered to win a $5 GC to the Studio Calico Shop. This week's sketch winner will be announced in the November 1st Layout of the Week post.
