Featured Artist | Geralyn Sy
We're excited to be able to feature so many different artists in our kits each month. December's Park Ave. kits bring you products thoughtfully designed by Geralyn Sy of In A Creative Bubble. Geralyn's work is well-known in the galleries and here on the blog, where she shares her special knack for creating amazing layouts with anything from stamps to digital products. If you haven't seen her December Daily for this year, you definitely need to! Geralyn's creativity knows no bounds, and her meticulous projects are always inspiring. You can find her online at http://creativebubble.bigcartel.com/.
How long have you been working with Studio Calico?
I joined the SC Creative Team in 2011, making layouts with the kits. My role has expanded since then and I also design monthly printables and cut files for the SC digital shop. I've had the fun opportunity to do some product design for the kits as well and on occasion, you can find my designs in the form of Project Life cards, stamp sets & other embellishments. It is incredibly cool to see the designs go from digital mock-ups to actual products and I am so happy to see people use these items on their creative projects.
Can you tell us about your creative process? What mediums do you work with, what inspires you?
I love playing with sumi ink and watercolors, and sometimes I scan my drawings or handlettering pieces to digitize. However, the majority of my designs are made on the computer with Photoshop and Illustrator. I love creating clean, graphic designs and choosing unique font combinations for my work. I want to design things that I can personally see myself using and products that are versatile and fun. Outside of Pinterest and the internet, I am really inspired by photography and my travels. Being in a new place always makes me more aware of the little details in my surroundings, and I always find new adventures to be inspiring.
Would you mind giving us a peek into your creative space?
I don't have an ideal creative space and am normally crafting or designing in my bedroom. My supplies are stashed in bookshelves and various storage containers and I have limited space for everything. Nevertheless, I make it work and I do treasure my little space. Here's a peek at one of my favorite corners where I store my stationery stash. I've amassed a sizeable collection of stationery which I love using in my Project Life and mini-books.
We’d love to see more of your art! Could you share a couple of your favorite projects?
I recently designed some holiday printables and digital files (such as cut files and photo templates) for my own shop and they make me so happy! I'm a big fan of color and have been putting my own products in use in my December Daily mini book. I also designed one of the Project Life stamps in the upcoming SC January kit, which you'll see real soon. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out :)
Where can we find more of your work?
You can find my little shop at In a Creative Bubble Shoppe. I also share my work on my blog, instagram, and Pinterest!
