Make a Cute Window Card | Carissa Wiley

Hi everyone! It’s been a little while since I’ve been here on the Studio Calico blog, but I’m so happy to be back and sharing a fun card project with you today, featuring the Odyssey Card Kit. This kit is so much fun! I love the mix of patterned papers. The stamp set is full of adorable images. And the flair is to die for!

I thought the adorable frog in the stamp set would be the perfect way to cheer up a sick friend! So I’ve used him to make a fun partial die cut window card with lots of get well wishes.

I started by gathering my supplies. Since I knew I would be making a window card and featuring my frog, I grabbed my favorite green inks from Studio Calico and some circle dies to create my window.

When I’m creating a window card like this, with a partial die cut element, I like to mark my window on my card front first. This helps me stamp my image in the correct place.

I inked up my frog in some Hero Arts Black Dye Ink…but you could use any permanent black ink. To watercolor my image, I used a combination of the Yes Peas and Lime Light inks. I pressed them on to an acrylic block and used my Zig BrusH20 to watercolor my frog image. Using two different greens gives the image more depth and dimension.

Now it’s time to die cut our window. I only want to cut to top portion of my circle (otherwise I’d cut my frog right off the card). I placed my card front on to my die cut machine allowing the bottom portion of the die to hang off of the cutting plates. Only the portion that is sandwiched between the cutting plates will cut, leaving me with a partial die cut window.

Once the die cutting was complete, I used my scissors to cut around my frog and cut a straight line to the edge of the die cut circle. I erased the lines I had previously made to clean up my card front.

Because that adorable frog would cheer up even the sickest of sickies (that’s a very technical nurse term), I chose the Get Well Soon sentiment from the Odyssey Card Kit stamp set. I stamped it in Versamark ink on a tag I die cut using the Studio Calico Tags Die Set and added some white embossing powder to white heat emboss my sentiment.

I layered up my card front with some patterned paper and colored cardstock from the Odyssey Card Kit. I thought it would be fun to add a pop of pink, so I stamped the You Make My Heart Leap For Joy sentiment in some Flamingo ink and cut the heart out to pop up in my die cut window.

I finished off the card by embellishing it with some Studio Calico Enamel Dots. I also added a good coating of Wink Of Stella Clear Glitter Brush Marker to my frog and added some life to his eyes by covering them with some Glossy Accents.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this card project and it inspires you to dig out your fabulous Studio Calico card kit and create something today! Thanks for stopping by today!
