Weekly Challenge | Changing Perspective with Jill

This week, our member Jill (username Jill S), is challenging you to change your perspective and capture a moment indirectly on your next project!! We love how she mixed her supplies and used journaling cards from the Odyssey kit to capture the memories of her daughter's first date! Our members are so talented and we love seeing your work in the gallery! Check back each week as we ask one of our members to inspire you with a challenge based on one of their projects from our member gallery. Be sure visit Jill to see more of her work and keep up with her!

"Hello! I’m a die-hard fan of challenges that stretch me creatively, and today, I’ve got one for you, based on this layout that I created using a combination of several Studio Calico kits. Among them is the Odyssey PL kit. Even though I am not a Project Lifer, I love using the cards and accents from the PL kits on my layouts, as I did here with the “I can’t even…” card. The card creates a link between the photo and the journaling (which is on the pink tag tucked into the layout). The story behind that link is that my daughter recently went on her first official date. Rather than making my daughter and her date feel awkward by asking them to pose for photos, I took a mental photograph of them and then turned my camera to the sky, where I captured the sunlight filtering through the blossom-laden trees. That photo, for me, expresses what my heart was feeling in that moment — that “I can’t even…” moment. The colors and accents on the page enhance that feeling. So here’s your challenge: scrapbook a moment indirectly, from a not-so-obvious angle, attending to what is not directly before you, but what is on the periphery. How’s that for a creative stretch? I absolutely cannot wait to see where this challenge takes you."

Now it’s your turn to create a project based on Jill's challenge! Share your new project for the challenge in the SC gallery (add the hashtag #SCchallenge to make it easier to find!), then link up your project in the comments of this post by April 6th and to be entered to win a $5 gift card to the Studio Calico Shop! This week's challenge winner will be announced in the April 11th Layout of the Week post.

This is such a sweet layout. Years from now, I'm sure your daughter will love reading your thoughts about her first date. And more importantly, how you respected her privacy.
I love this challenge. And I have the perfect idea for it.

Here is my take on this - a layout about work. The journaling is hidden on the tag behind the photo block because it is very personal to me.

This was a great challenge! I had attended one of my husband's concerts and didn't get any good photos. Then I found one on his phone that he took of his guitars. http://www.studiocalico.com/galleries/159744-janey-s
