Sunday Sketch | Jenn Picard

This week, our layout sketch is 12x12 layout with a classic grid and stamped title! Our card sketch features stitched patterned paper banners and our Project Life sketch uses a 4x6 photo paired with a journaling card. Creative Team member, Jenn Picard, is joining us this week & sharing her take on both our scrapbook and card sketch! Be sure to follow Jenn here at SC to see more of her work and keep up with her.

Our 12x12 layout sketch comes from Maggie Massey's Seussical layout:

Our card sketch comes from Lisa Spangler's Shine Bright card:

Our Project Life sketch comes from Kelly Noel's Project Life spread:

I find using sketches such a great way to jump start my creativity. Sometimes I may stick pretty close to the sketch other times I find I use it as a starting point and build from there.

This week I found the sketches very inspiring (along with the original work that they were based upon) so I decided to create using both the scrapbook and card sketches. For the card sketch I really loved all of the horizontal strips and banners. Lisa's card is striking and it really made me wish I had gold thread!

I incorporated lots of stitching detail onto various pattered papers stips. Before attaching them to the card base I watercolored several stripes using Color Theroy inks. Rather then adding all of banners in the sketch, I added three including a piece of one of the washi strips from the Card Kit.

Using the 12x12 sketch I scaled it down to create a 8 1/2x11 page. I found Maggie's original layout to be extremely inspiring and loved all the stitching she incorporated to add texture and detail. I chose to omit the the side title as with the smaller canvas I didn't have room for it.

Using bits and pieces from the Iris Embellishment Add on I layered them on top of patterned papers from the main Lisse Card Kit. I love using elements from the card kit and incoporating them into layouts. The base of the layout is the light blue card stock from the Card Kit as well.

The angled piece a long the bottom adds such great interest and because I was sticking to using just the 2 kits for my layout I created my owm patterned paper for this piece using stamps from Iris and some white card stock
