Weekly Challenge | Get Creative with Dies

This week, our member Beverly (username artgirlbev), is challenging you to use those dies - both the cut and the negative image!! Our members are so talented and we love seeing your work in the gallery! Check back each week as we ask one of our members to inspire you with a challenge based on one of their projects from our member gallery. Be sure visit Beverly to see more of her work and keep up with her!

Happy Spring everyone! I'm thrilled to be here issuing this week's challenge. I'm always looking for new techniques and fun new ways to use my kit products and I'm sure you are too. For this card I wanted to highlight the cool, modern leaf die from the Lisse Street card kit. Using my watercolors, I started off by doing a light rainbow wash on some watercolor paper. Then I randomly diecut some leaves on a piece of white cardstock (3 3/4" x 5 1/4") and also on some gold foil cardstock. Once the watercolored background was dry I layered the white diecut piece over the top and replaced only some of the negative spaces with the gold leaf diecuts to make it pop and so that some of the watercolored background would peek through. I added my sentiment, some sequins and mounted it onto a gold background (finished dimensions
4" x 5 1/2").

It's rare that I actually use both the diecut and the negative space the diecut leaves behind so my challenge for you this week is to do just that! On a card, SB layout or PL spread use one of your fabulous SC dies both ways incorporating this inlaid diecutting technique to take advantage of the the negative space of the diecut and the diecut itself. Have fun playing! I'm looking forward to seeing the creative ways you meet this challenge. And thanks SC for this awesome opportunity to host!

Now it’s your turn to create a project based on Beverly's challenge! Share your new project for the challenge in the SC gallery (add the hashtag #SCchallenge to make it easier to find!), then link up your project in the comments of this post by May 25th and to be entered to win a $5 gift card to the Studio Calico Shop! This week's challenge winner will be announced in the May 30th Layout of the Week post.

I love this challenge. Dies are the greatest thing to happen to crafting since the invention of clear stamps - so cheap, so good.

Thanks for this challenge, I love the look, I used my Dear Lizzy bow die cut yesterday for a confetti bow, but I'm going to try something else after seeing your challenge. :)

I almost always use the negative of the die cut, if not as an inlay, I save it for a stencil.
Today I went a little crazy with my Vintaj.
