Use "Girly" Items on a Layout to Document Boys | Maggie Massey

FACT: 5 of those are "boyish."
OK, OK...I'm exaggerating...slightly. But as the mother of 2 boys (and 1 girl) I know that it can be hard to find cool, on-trend scrapbooking stuff that's not too feminine. That's why I decided to embrace the pink and use it for everyone. Yep, you read that right...pink all around!
Here are some "rules" I tend to follow when I'm using paper & embellishments that are traditionally "girly" on layouts of my boys.
*I've found that I can pretty much get away with using more "girly" colors (read: pink) on boy-pages if I incorporate other colors as well.
*I will use icon stickers/chipboard pieces & enamal dots in pinks, etc. pretty indiscriminately...especially when I'm using them as accent or finishing pieces. Don't worry about digging around for blue, green or woodgrain hearts...just use pink. I promise it will look good...and totally normal.
*I try to shy away from using girl-stuff on pages of my boys as babies...especially when they were super-little. It's just confusing.
*If the photos I'm scrapping are of both my boys AND my daughter, I don't worry about what I'm using...anything goes...
and the number one rule...
*If you like the way it looks, use it. Really. Don't automatically discount a patterned paper just because it's on the feminine side...or because it's pink. I know it can be easy to look at a collection or a set of products and say, "I could never use that...it's too girly." But I challenge you to give those things a second look. Push a couple of pieces of pink around on your next boy layout...you may like what you see.
