Tutorial: Creating a Layout with the September Brimfield Kit with Maggie Massey

Hey all! Maggie here to walk you through a super easy layout I created with the September Brimfield kits. One of my very favorite things about working with kits is that all of the hard work is already done for you! You don't have to worry about choosing items that will work together — you know you can just grab a patterned paper or embellishment and you'll be good! When I receive my kits, I usually spread out all of the pieces and put papers together, stickers together, chipboard together, transparencies together, etc. Then, when I'm creating a project, I can pull items from any pile to use in my work. That's just what I did for this page — I combined a number of kits. I had a general idea of what I wanted to create, so I gathered up my photo, a few different patterned papers and some embellishments.

I wanted to incorporate a bunch of the papers, but I couldn't find one in particular I wanted to use as my background so I went with white cardstock to start and used the Plus Sign die to cut shapes from the papers I liked.

I played around with different arrangements for my plus signs until I found one I really liked; then, I started mapping out my page.

This is how I usually create my layouts. I'll lay everything out the way I like it and then I'll snap a photo with my phone. That way, when I go to glue everything down I won't forget what my page looked like. I do sometimes make changes to my initial design, but for the most part, I stick with my first creation.

Next I began to glue down my shapes. One little plus sign on top of another...

...until my arrangement was completed.

I added the rest of my embellishments with more glue and a stapler.

When all of my little tags and stickers had been added I stamped a few sentiments...

...and, like I do on a good number of my pages, I used my favorite journaling pen to add a little "frame" around my design.

And that's it!

After I chose my papers and embellishments, this layout really took no more than an hour to finish...including the time it took to die-cut all of those plus signs!

I just love how the different patterns and colors fit so well together...and how they complement each other so nicely...

...all without tons of work on my part!
