Scrapbook Kit Workshop - Pam BaldwiN

Pam is a Canadian girl, a mom and a nurse who loves to capture the details of everyday life with photos and words. Her scrapbooks are filled with clean and simple hybrid layouts, pocket page spreads and big photos (always big photos!). This year, Pam is excited to be telling her stories as a part of Ali Edwards’ Digital Creative Team and One Little Bird’s Hybrid Creative Team, along with teaching digital/hybrid scrapbooking tricks over at Big Picture Classes. You can find lots more of Pam’s work here in the Studio Calico Member Gallery, on her blog and on Instagram.

Favorite things about Savannah

My favourite thing about this kit was the inspiration to “play.” There are fun, hand-drawn and doodled elements sprinkled throughout the main kit and add-ons that fit so perfectly with the lighthearted, everyday kind of moments I love to capture in my scrapbook pages (like the exclusive black and white doodled flower paper, the Life.Love.Paper frame stamp set and the Crate Paper chipboard pieces). I was really excited for the creative challenge of working with some unique elements, like the slide/frame piece in the main scrapbook kit, to shake up my usual format and tell my stories in a different way. I have a plan, and I’m really, really looking forward to documenting the year ahead!

1 – The Frame Stamp set by Life.Love.Paper. I don’t really consider myself much of a stamper, but THIS stamp set is completely addictive!! You’ll have so much fun styling your own little galleries and displays, you won’t want to stop. Seriously.

2- The wood veneer hearts and slide/frame piece in the main scrapbook kit are neck and neck for a very close second. Pretty much anything wood veneer has my heart, and these little hearts are the perfect finishing touch for everything. But the slide/frame piece...that one’s really cool and unique. I’d like to play with that some more.

3- The chipboard pieces by Crate Paper in the Scrapbook add-on are fantastic! There are SO MANY of them!! Really excited about them.

About the lessons

In the first lesson, I’ll share my plan for documenting 2016 in a way that will keep things fun and interesting. We’ll take a look at the Savannah kit contents and create a layout to capture some of those everyday “simple little moments” (and catch up quickly with your monthly/weekly stories!). In the second lesson, we’re going to play with the frame stamp set by Life.Love.Paper and talk about jump-starting your project with inspiration from the past. In the third lesson, we’ll work with a fun photography trick to document the details, some simple journaling themes to get words on the page and, OF COURSE, we’re going to have some fun with pretty paper, photos and words.

Main points that subscribers will take away

Here’s what I believe to be true about this memory keeping hobby of ours: The best scrapbook pages are the ones that tell a story, and the everyday kind of stories and details are just as meaningful and important to capture as the life’s “big” events. It can feel a little overwhelming, the pressure to “keep up.” Or maybe you’re feeling a little bored with your current memory keeping format and looking for a change. My hope for you in taking this workshop is that you will gain some new ideas, a fresh perspective, and feel inspired to tell your everyday stories, to find your creative spark and to have fun doing it.

Documenter Kit Workshop - Brandi Kincaid

Brandi makes and records memories in Bellingham, Wash., a far cry from her home state of Georgia. She spends all of her free moments playing with paper and glue and doodling a version of the world around her. When she isn't making a mess, she's spending time at one of her favorite neighborhood bookshops or watching episodes of "Murder, She Wrote," because nothing beats J.B. Fletcher.

Favorite things about Savannah

I never considered myself a pink person before this last year, but I love the warm salmon mixed with red, orange and yellow in this kit. The stamp set in the main kit is a great tool for storytelling, making great prompts for journaling.

About the lessons

In the first lesson, we’ll look at different ways to use your journal cards to stretch your kit and fit different page protector sizes. In the second lesson, we’ll use stamps to make additional journal cards to add to our spreads. In the third lesson, we’ll look at a few ways to add additional journaling to our spreads while still keeping the design simple.

Main points that subscribers will take away

There are so many ways to use your kit that will not only stretch how much you can make, but might also have you rethinking items you might not have been initially drawn to. Making your supplies more flexible also makes trying new page protectors and configurations easier and more fun. Using repeating patterns or prompts on a spread can help you keep your spreads simple and manageable on busy weeks!

@pambaldwin you talk about the frame pieces in the main SB kit (I assume you are talking about the gray ones in your photo) but I don't see them in the Main SB photo or listed in the kit description. Where are they from? They look awesome.

@caitlingwell can you answer this? Where is this Slide/Frame piece that @Pambaldwin talks about with the Main SB kit? It isn't shown in the kit description and I just love this and would like to know before the 5th? Thanks for your help!

@brinkleyboy and @shellyj that piece was moved to a future kit at the last minute, but I'm getting ready to add the cut file to the workshop so that you can recreate it :)
