Tutorial: Using the Savannah Documenter Kit with Ginny Hughes

Hello, Ginny here with you today to go step by step on how I put together a Documenter spread. This year I am using a 6x8 Handbook to document our lives, I really like the smaller size. I used a combination of the February Savannah Documenter kit and the Nes Verk add on kit from January, I like the way the softer colors and the bolder colors really compliment each other. This spread is a little snapshot of 2 of my kids and their current lives, it is very brief & obviously just a small part of what they are like. It was a fun spread to put together though!

It all started with the 2 photos and the journal cards with the stars already punched into them. I had used these cards for a previous spread where I had punched the stars for a confetti pocket. I hadn't intended to use them, but I saw them sitting on my desk and liked the way they looked and how perfectly they went with the "boy side" & "girl side" of the spread. Although I am definitely not one to only use pink for girls and blue for boys, it suits these 2 kids to a T!

I started by backing the star cards with a matching background card, I really wanted the stars to stand out. I then wrote just a few lines of journaling on the remaining room on the cards.

I also tried the Heidi Swapp Reactive Foil for the first time & I will tell you that I am hooked, I might foil everything from now on. I used a laminator that I already had on hand, yes you can use a laminator! How cool. I printed the digital journal cards from Hello Forever on my regular inkjet printer and then took that sheet to a copy machine that uses toner, you will need the toner to react to the foil. I placed the journal card and the foil into a plain piece of copy paper that I had folded in half, it acted as my carrier sheet, and ran it through the laminating machine. It worked like a charm. I can say that I tried it on some of the cards that had a light image and it didn't work as well, I believe it needed the dark image of the number 2 to work the best.

I added the multicolor 4x6 card from the Nes Verk Documenter add on kit to add in some golf color & to tie the 2 sides together. I also added a small strip of the same pattern up in the left corner to pull those colors to the other side as well.

When I am using 2 3x4 sized journaling cards or photos together in a 4x6 pocket I will adhere them down to a 4x6 card that I have in my stash that I know I won't be using. It keeps them from sliding around in the pocket and I still feel like I am getting a good use out of my supplies, even if not the way they were intended to be used.

I added in a few letter stickers for their initials and a "Love" label from the Nes Verk kit to finish the spread off. I love the way it turned out, such fun colors.

Supplies: Savannah Documenter kit, Nes Verk add-on kit, Hello Forever Savannah printable, Sunny Day pigment ink, Inky Black ink, Reactive Foil

The star punched card backed by another card is awesome! I love that you put their initials right on their photo. Also love the snippets of their life right now at that age.
