Workspace Wednesday | Carson Riutta

Hello friends, welcome to my home today. I’m excited to show you around my craft space especially as I’ve just purged quite a few supplies and organized some others. This space is in the best shape it’s been in a long time, which makes it a joyful place in which to create.

Our shared office is a formal dining room that we’ve converted. It’s the first thing you see when you step into the house and it has an amazing picture window that lets that fabulous southern sunlight in all afternoon. My stuff takes up a little more than half the room and my husband is relegated to a single desk and a small Alex drawer. My pride and joy in this space is my Ikea Magiker cabinet that I scored on Craigslist a few years back. I adore this cabinet! It holds so many of my supplies and fits under that chair rail like a dream. Here is a look into some of its nooks and crannies.

In the cabinet closest to my desk, I store all my adhesives, 6x6 papers, wood veneer and random art supplies. I also keep a box of baby wipes in there for quick and easy cleanup. That cabinet door is always open when I’m actively creating and all my supplies are within reach.

The top drawer of my Magiker holds all my bits and bobs that I collect over time. Truth be told, it’s one of my fave drawers with all the creative possibilities it holds.

The next drawer holds my punches and some pre-cut card bases and fronts.

Next is my ink drawer, which just had a major cleanse. I let go of quite a few old inks that were dried out and languishing. I decided to keep only a few essentials as well as my Studio Calico color theory inks and add to my collection over time.

The bottom drawer of the unit holds all my messy supplies, and it is sometimes a major battle to keep the little Riuttas out of this one.

The newest addition to my space is that awesome card organizer made by Stamp n Storage. Tracyxo shared some pics of hers over on IG right before the holidays and I became a woman obsessed. I put it at the top of my Christmas wish list and the hubs came through! I use it to store all my documenter cards and pretty much anything else that fits in a 4x6 slot including my smaller stamps, alphas, stickers, dies, photos, enamel dots and flair.

The trusty workhorse in my space is my desk with built in cube storage. It’s the perfect solution for storing all my 12x12 and larger supplies. The bottom four cubes hold all my current albums and my stash of 12x12 papers.

The top four cubes help keep my most used supplies within reach. This is where I store my stamp binder, I die-cut binder, stickers, Thickers, chipboard and specialty papers. The top of the cube stack is the perfect place for my large format printer and my notebook bin/roller stamp storage.

The antique roll top desk, which separates my space from my husband’s, holds all of our heavy duty office equipment including camera equipment, laminator, reams of paper, long stapler, and all our shipping and mailing supplies. It also looks rad with my vintage typewriter on top.

And finally I adore my rolling cart from World Market, which fits perfectly in the former dead space between the end of my cabinet and the wall. The cart has remained pretty stationary, but it holds all my markers, brush pens and finished cards.

I hope you’ve enjoyed the tour today. I’m currently running a series for the month of February called Craft Room Rehab, where I post a daily prompt to help you manage and organize your supplies. You can find the prompts here on the Studio Calico message boards or by following my Instagram feed.

Thanks for stopping by!

@stormsts and @TerryB thank you so much ladies! The reason there is only a peek of the antique roll top is because my hubs has half of it covered with a crazy amount of junk. I was going to show the clear delineation between the spaces, but in the name of pretty pictures I decided against it. :)

I think your space would function great. Our "newly remodeled office" has the same thing going on as your dining room...it use to be our daughter's bedroom and we turned it into "our office" although my husband says it just has become my "craftroom"! (He might have a point), so hence the purging and reorganizing has been in progress. The one thing I took from you was the tip of having two boxes with the already made card bases...that is always a stopping point for me in needing to make a card!!! Thanks for sharing!

This is nice, my space is not so lovely, but neither is it in view of anyone unless I invite them to see. Thanks for sharing.
