Tutorial: Using the Homespun Scrapbook Kit with Geralyn Sy

Hi everyone! I’m playing with the Homespun kits and add-ons today and I’m going to share with you my process of putting together a layout using the little leftover bits and pieces from the kits. Let’s get started.

I’m using the dark grey cardstock for my background and a photograph of myself. I decided I wanted to create a cluster of embellishments in the middle of my page, so I added a pink label beside my picture.

I am in love with the leaf screenprint in the scrapbook kit, and I stuck it on a scrap piece of plain white cardstock. I’m using yellow acrylic paint on the screen to create my embellishment.

After letting the paint dry for a bit, I cut out the leaf image using a pair of fine tip scissors. I decided to go with this route instead of using the screen print directly on my cardstock in case I make any mistakes. Plus, I can play around with the positioning of the leaf print if I make it on a separate piece of paper as opposed to directly on my background.

I adhered the leaf embellishment beside my photograph. I also added some puffy stickers and another silver foil label to complete the grouping of embellishments by my picture.

Below my photo and embellishments, I used my .625” circle punch and various patterned papers from the scrapbook kit + add-on to create a row of colored circles. I arranged them in rainbow order and spaced them out as evenly as possible.

Next, I used the mini stamps from the scrapbook kit to create a playful pattern on my dark grey background. I used black ink because I wanted the design to be subtle but still visible against the grey.

I cut a thin strip of cardstock and wrote a quote that resonates with me on it. Then I used foam adhesive to adhere it right on top of my row of circles.

To finish my layout, I used my white pen and drew little cross hairs on my background. I thought this would be a fun and playful way to add some extra detail and contrast to my page.

That’s it! It’s a fairly simple layout but I hope this shows you how small things can still make a big impact through the contrast with a dark background. Thanks for taking a look!

This is so awesome-I never know what to do with my bits of leftovers, I only know I don't want to throw them away. A good challenge, and I accept!
