Tutorial: Unicorn Tags with Carson Riutta

I’ve been having too much fun playing with all the goodies in the April Film Club kits, and today I want to share a project I put together using the unicorn die and the gorgeous Neon Word cards. I love how whimsical these elements are and I thought they would be a great combo for some very fun gift tags. These tags would be perfect for a little girl’s present or as party favor tags for your next princess party.

Supplies: Stamps – SC You are so Loved, SC Film Club Scrapbook Stamp by Life Love Paper; Ink – SC Color Theory Flamingo; Die – Unicorn Die; Printables – Neon Word Specialty Cards by Jasmine Jones; Other – Gold star sequins from the Film Club Scrapbook kit, acrylic mounting block, glitter paper, hole punch, ribbon, white cardstock, adhesive runner, Tombow mono multi liquid glue

I used the digital set of Jasmine’s Neon Word cards and chose two of the designs, which you can see in the bottom left of the picture above. I cut them to size and decided they would look best with some glittered unicorns dancing across them. I chose to use glitter paper instead of adhesive sheets and actual glitter. Both methods will work, one is just messier than the other.

First, determine how many cards you’ll be creating and then cut your unicorns with your die-cut machine. I just learned that a group of unicorns is called a blessing, so die-cut your paper until you have a blessing of unicorns. How sweet is that? I really love the way the unicorns look with a little more dimension to them so I layered in a white die-cut unicorn on each card. That peek of white in the front adds some movement as well as some bulk to the animal.

Next, you will want to add your unicorns to your tags. I wanted to leave some room for stamping, so I placed my unicorns off the tag slightly which also adds interest and movement to the project.

I then stamped some sentiments in flamingo ink with an older Studio Calico stamp set that just worked beautifully with the feel of the tags.

Next, I created a hang tag by punching a hole in the top right corner and stringing some very soft and feminine ribbon through it. I wanted the ribbon to look more like the tassels from the handlebars of a girl’s bike, so I took my scissors to the ribbon and cut them all down the middle, once they were strung onto the tag. And finally, I finished the tags off with those gorgeous gold stars from the Film Club Scrapbook kit.

There you have it: a very quick and easy way to create a bunch of whimsical cards for your next birthday party.
Have fun crafting!
Carson
