Sunday Sketch | Carson Riutta

This week, our Scrapbook sketch features a misted background, our Documenter sketch uses three cards and our Card sketch features a fun pocket. Get creative and be sure to share your projects here with us! We can't wait to see what you create! Today, Carson Riutta shares her take on the Scrapbook sketch.

Our Scrapbook layout comes from Catherine Davis's Over the Rainbow layout:

Our Documenter layout comes from Jenn Picard's Balboa Park spread:

Our card comes from Natalie Elphinstone's Sweet Dreams card:

Hello and happy Sunday friends! Every week I itch to play along with the sketch, but there is always something else that needs to be done, so I'm pretty excited to be sketching with you today. I chose to use Catherine's layout sketch, as her layouts always make me gasp and this one was no exception.

I created this layout during NSD weekend and I had the stash busting challenge on my mind so I decided to dig into my alpha stash and create a mega title to go along with the sketch. Now it's important to note, that while creating this title, I had the lyrics to the song pulled up right in front of me on my computer screen, and somehow I still managed to get them wrong :) I don't know how it happened either, but I'm choosing to roll with it.

I stayed very true to the sketch, and decided to go with a blue and green color palette. I threw in a little yellow as the title grew in order to use more of my alpha and to add some interest to the layout. I also love that I normally gravitate toward the warmer colors, so when I make a layout with the leftovers of a kit, if I switch from warm to cool colors, I have so much left to work with. It's a happy twist and a trick anyone one can use as you try to kill your kits.

With such a large title, this layout didn't need anymore words so I chose to leave out a journaling component. I think the title and the picture get the point of the layout across and show you the side of his personality that I was trying to highlight.

I hope you'll play along this week. I cannot wait to see what you create with these sketches and your artistic vision!

Now it's your turn! Make a project using one of this week's sketches as a starting point, then share it in the Studio Calico gallery. Use the hashtag #SCsketch to make it easier for other members to find! Leave us a link to your project by May 30 in the comments here to be entered to win a $5 gift card to Studio Calico Shop. This week's sketch winner will be announced in the June 4 Layout of the Week post.

I was inspired by the layout sketch to create this layout documenting my Granddaughter's recent visit. I captured this on an evening walk with her!

I used the Documenter sketch on this layout, and I just couldn't resist making it food-related like Jenn Picard's! http://www.studiocalico.com/galleries/189611-happy-place

For the card sketch I simulated a shaker card with glossy accent bubbles to make it more masculine
