Member Challenge | Paper Puzzle with Anastasia

This week, our member  Anastasia (user goodthings88) is challenging you to grab your scissors and create a patterned paper puzzle! Our members are so talented, and we love seeing your work in the gallery! Check back each week as we ask one of our members to inspire you with a challenge based on one of their projects from our member gallery. Be sure visit Anastasia to see more of her work and keep up with her!

Hello, hello! This is Anastasia with a layout featuring a happy patterned paper puzzle in the shape of a heart. The photo was taken at a super fun bubble festival we went to with my daughter. We were jumping and smiling all day, so I wanted to translate that happy moments into page that's just as cheerful. You can probably tell that I had a "Silhouette Cameo look" on my mind. This is a good idea if you like the "outlined border" collage, but don't have the actual machine to created it with. Well, here's a trick to achieve the look visually. Pick your paper of choice (this is a good chance to use scraps here!) and trim out equally sized squares. Then cut the squares in half diagonally to create triangles. Arrange them into a heart, keeping a little border in between each one. You can also skip the the border and put them close to each other. If you choose to use bright colors and busy patterns, I recommend converting your photos into black and white to balance out the overall look. I chose to include one larger photo in the center, but you can play around with the idea and swap a few paper triangles for photos here and there to create a more embedded collage. Add a few small embellishments and a title to the page to finish it off.

I challenge you to make your own puzzled heart celebrating the happy moments!

Now it’s your turn to create a project based on Anastasia's challenge! Share your new project for the challenge in the SC gallery (add the hashtag #SCchallenge to make it easier to find!), then link up your project in the comments of this post by August 1 and to be entered to win a $5 promo code to the Studio Calico Shop! This week's challenge winner will be announced in the August 6 Layout of the Week post.

I used the puzzle challenge to create a word about a happy moment rather than a heart and used strips of paper that matched the colors of my photos.

I made my own pattern paper by adding a splash of color and incorporated my title and my photos as my puzzle pieces. To be honest this layout wasn't intended for this challenge. But as I was trying to get a feel for how I was going to put it together it felt like I was putting together a puzzle. It made me stop to think how that was this weeks challenge and when I looked at the layout, it seemed to fit better than what I had originally intended. So thanks!
