Using the Young At Heart Documenter Kit with Maggie Massey

Hey hey, everyone! Maggie here!

Sometimes I really love to challenge myself when it comes to creating a layout...whether this means limiting myself to a specific set of colors or embellishments or doing my best to kill a kit! After creating my spreads for the gallery this month, I had a few pieces left over from my Documenter Kit...pieces I loved and wanted to use, but just didn't fit into a spread. So I decided to create a layout with them instead.

Here's how I created my page:

I started by picking out some of my favorite (leftover) pieces from the Young at Heart Documenter Kit...a few cards and some embellishments.

I normally love to use white cardstock as the base for my layouts, but because my embellishments were mainly white, I decided to use a piece of woodgrain patterned paper (in addition to my cardstock) to break up all the white. I began by placing my cards and photo, moving them around until I was happy with the layout.

After my cards were placed...

...I began adding my embellishments.

My next step was to add a little bit of stamping...

...and finally I added a few little last bits and pieces, including those darling wood veneer pieces.

And it's done!

Just a note...as a rule, I don't normally adhere my embellishments permanently until I'm happy with how they look. For example, on this page, I started by placing the little house in the center of my bottom two cards and ended up moving it as I went along. If I'm using a tape runner to attach my pages, I will just press down lightly to adhere the piece temporarily to my page. When I've decided its final placement, I'll press down harder.

Thanks so much for checking out my project today! I hope I've inspired you to take some of your Documenter supplies and use them on a layout. It's a great way to use up those kits!
