Sunday Sketch | Mel Blackburn

This week, our scrapbook sketch is a 9" x 12" grid layout. Our card sketch features an off-center, heart shaped sentiment with a bow. Our pocket page sketch features a photo along side a card with a circular journal. Creative Team member Mel Blackburn is joining us this week and sharing her take on the week's scrapbook sketch! Be sure to follow Mel here at SC to see more of her work and keep up with her.

Our scrapbook sketch comes from Geralyn Sy's Wild and Free layout:

Our card sketch comes from Carson Ruitta's Lithograph Garden card:

Our pocket page sketch comes a couple cards from Juli Maniago's Sedona spread:

Here is Mel Blackburn's take on this week's scrapbook sketch:

Hello friends! I’m excited to be back today for another Sunday sketch edition. I was so very inspired by the different sketches but what caught my attention was the grid design of Geralyn’s layout and knew that the square transparencies in the Story Board documenter kit would be ideal for a grid design. I opted to use a soft color palette to reflect the mood of the picture and convey feelings of love and happiness. I also mixed in embellishments from past kits to complete this layout, this is another reason why I think the kits are so wonderful, they are versatile and easily coordinate with each other.

I used the “xo’s” from the 4x6 scrapbook vintage stamp to create a soft pattern as an anchor to my journaling tag. I finished this portion of the design using the wood veneer hearts from the Young at Heart documenter kit and gold mist splatters.

Using journaling cards and pattern paper I created strips of scallop paper with my favorite border punch (yep I’m still a fan of punches). This was ideal to anchor my title. Of course I added stitching to the borders to complete the soft and feminine layout.

I look forward to seeing your take on this week’s sketches. Happy crafting!
