November's featured teachers

Documenter Kit Workshop - Carson Riutta

Carson is a creative soul who just. Can't. Stop. Creating. She loves all things papercraft, dabbling in card making, scrapbooking, pocket pages, art journaling, photography and watercolor. When she’s not creating, she is running around North Carolina with her two boys, ages three and six, looking for the next adventure. She likes strong coffee, toddler snuggles, campfires, chunky sweaters, reading Captain Underpants, and going to bed early.

Favorite things about the month's kit:

I love so much about the Sonnet kit, but the British theme and the word transparencies are the stand-outs for me. How sweet is that yellow tea cup, the double decker bus, and that peachy “Cheers?”

What she'll be teaching:

In the first lesson, we’ll be documenting our friendships and taking our scissors to some of our most loved embellishments. In the second lesson, we’ll focus on journaling the positives and creating a cohesive spread with random photos. We’ll also discuss incorporating printables into our layouts. And in the third lesson, we’ll ignore the boundaries of our pockets. We’ll use our embellishments across our pockets to tie their contents together.

Takeaways:

I think the most important takeaway will be that there are no rules! Think outside your pockets, put your scissors to work to on your stamps and embellishments, or make a spread with a bunch of random photos. There is no correct way to document your life. Have fun, be creative, and let yourself play!

Planner Kit Workshop - Tricia Romo

Tricia is a crafter and planner girl at heart. She and her husband have been married 12 wonderful years, and they have three beautiful kids. As a military family, they move a lot, and keeping a good planner is very important to to Tricia. Life flies crazy fast when you move every two years. She tries to sneak in creative planning time every day because it makes her a better mom and wife by keeping her soul happy :) She loves learning from the Studio Calico community, and looks forward to what each year brings.

Favorite things about the month's kit:

I really love the variety of stickers in this month’s kit! The circle stickers can be used alone or cut in half to get twice the use, and the weekend labels are the perfect size to spread across two days. I’m a sticker girl at heart, so having lots of stickers to play with makes my heart happy!

What she'll be teaching:

In the first lesson, I’ll be showing you a little DIY for adding the great little bags the kit comes in to your ring planner, along with doing a weekly spread. In lesson two, I’ll use the workshop printable in my traveler’s notebook to help me get ready and organized for Thanksgiving. And finally, in the last lesson, we’ll be playing with stamps and lots of pretty Color Theory ink to get our color coding on!

Takeaways:

When you get your kit, I want you to think outside the box! Don’t be afraid to cut things up and make them work for your planner. I love using supplies in new ways. I’m also going to be talking about color coding, and helping you achieve a clean, easy-to-read planner page to help keep you organized and ready to take on your busy schedule.

Scrapbook Kit Workshop - Patricia Roebuck

Patricia lives in Louisiana with her husband, daughter, and two cats. Over the past four years, she has felt fortunate to be a part of several design teams. She's recently been employed to work from home as a concept designer for a direct sales stamping and papercrafting company. She loves creating, and she's very excited about being more involved in growing as a designer, teaching and inspiring others. Her creative journey began with adopting her daughter and the desire to create a Life Book for her. She loves all paper crafts, including scrapbooking, cardmaking, planning, pocket pages, and photography.

Favorite things about the month's kit:

As I worked through the main kit, I loved that just that one kit had a combination of a modern, graphic, and vintage feel. The added stamp and ink pad also opened up so many creative possibilities. Along with the variety of feelings I got from the kit, I love how I was able to create both soft and bold colored layouts. And hands down, my all-time favorite aspect of any SC kit, is having great patterned papers to use for backgrounds.

What she'll be teaching:

In the first lesson, we’ll make a quick 15-minute layout focusing on the ink pad and stamps. In the second lesson, we’ll start with selecting patterned papers by colors to use along with the digital cut files for a soft, airy layout. In our final lesson, we’ll use the alpha stamp set along with the main kit stamp to create our title.

Takeaways:

None of these layouts took me more than 30 minutes, once I sat down to create them. I took some time before creating to look through the main kit, to select the starters, and then to select the photos ahead of time. I shuffled things around on my page along the way, but I made a point to keep with the original starters and photos as the focus, which helped keep me from shuffling too much. Having the starters helped me take a great kit and use just the right technique, colors, or title to best complement my photos and memories.
