Get to Know | Jen, Jamie, Morgan, Carson

Last week, we introduced our new 2017 Creative Team! We have a good mix of new and old designers, but we thought it would be fun to get to know them all a little better. Join us every Friday this month for a little peek inside our Creative Team! This week, let's get to know more about Jen Chapin, Jamie Waters, Morgan Stockton, and Carson Riutta!

Jen Chapin:

Blog: I don't blog so much anymore, but I do post process videos on my Youtube channel.

Instagram: @jenchapin

Bio:  I live in Iowa with my husband (Adam) and two kids - Keira (7) and Connor (4). By day I'm a registered nurse but on weekends and after my kids are in bed you'll find me in my scraproom! I've been scrapbooking since 2006 and couldn't imagine my life without this hobby. I'm currently finishing up grad school, and am busy most evenings shuttling my kids to dance and swimming. In my spare time, I like to listen to audiobooks and podcasts, cook and try new recipes, and practice my photography.

What are your favorite projects to create? Layouts for sure, although I love pocket pages too!

Inspired by: Bright colors and bold patterns

Obsessed with: Coffee, YouTube, and Pinterest

A favorite project:

This layout is probably in my top 5 favorites from 2016. I love it because it not only tells an important story, but also incorporates lots of fun colors and patterns into the layout. I think that scrapbooking should express our artistic side, while still remaining meaningful in telling the stories that are important to us.

Jamie Waters:

Blog: Waters Five

Instagram: @jamiewaters

Bio: I've been scrapbooking since 2002, though I took a short 3 year break in the middle of that period. I live in Los Angeles with my husband and 4 children (ages 21, 18, 16 and 10) and our little rescue puppy.

What are your favorite projects to create? I'm a scrapbook layout girl! I do have a soft spot for documenting while traveling in my TN though! And also when I'm short on time, it's a great way to get things done and down quickly!

Inspired by: my children and family

Obsessed with: chocolate, coffee and good design.

A favorite project:

I love this page as I rarely print out photos this large but this one made such an impact that I couldn't resist. Love the memory and the simple touches of embellishments.

Morgan Lynn Stockton:

Blog: No blog, but feel free to check out some of my design work here

Instagram:  @missmorganlynn

Bio:  I generally describe myself in these situations as “graphic designer // food enthusiast // explorer // attempted diy-er //plant mom // dog mom.” I was born in California but then proceeded to live just about everywhere (including a short stint in Europe) courtesy of my father being a member of the USAF. I attended the Kansas City Art Institute for Graphic Design and then post-grad made the move from Kansas City (MO, not KS) to Bowling Green, Kentucky to begin working at Studio Calico. I love road trips and taking photos (Instagram is my jam). My apartment is 70% plants, 30% furniture. I’m the proud mom of two lovebirds—Tiki and Viola—and (as of November ’16) the smartest and most adorable Miniature American Shepherd—Maple.

What are your favorite projects to create?  I’ve recently gotten really into the Traveler’s Notebooks. I’m also a #PlannerAddict, which comes from a natural inclination to constantly organize my life.

Inspired by:  Everything. But really, I love graphic design books. I go all heart-eyes for innovative packaging and layouts. I’m also super inspired by talented hand letterers and designers—Casey Ligon, Timothy Goodman, Adam J. Kurtz, Brendan O’Shaughnessy (of Ocean and Sea), Lauren Hom…seriously my list could go on…

Obsessed with:  Food. Plants. Road trips. Nikon Cameras. My Puppy.

A favorite project:

I love, love, love my Traveler’s Notebook. It’s finally given me a place to put the ephemera that I just naturally collect on long trips—or even just weekend trips. Finally, I’ve got the perfect excuse of why I just NEED to keep that map to that one garden that we went to on a trip to Orlando. I also love that it’s kind of continuous and fluid. Like one trip just goes right into the next. No need to pull out a new binder filled with memories, it’s all right here stored in this one book that I can just keep adding inserts to.

Carson Riutta:

Blog: Pine & Plum

Instagram: @pineandplum

Bio:  Hello, My name is Carson and I'm currently a stay at home mom to two beautiful boys, ages 2 and 5 yrs, and wife to a lovely video game designing husband. We are currently calling North Carolina home after spending the last few years moving around the USA. When I'm not hanging with my boys, I can be found playing with paper in our shared family office, while making frequent trips to the refrigerator and spending entirely too much time on Instagram. I dabble in card making, art journaling, project life, mini-albums and traditional 12x12 scrapbooking. This will be my second year on the team. I adore working with the beautiful products every month, and being a part of this wonderful community.

What are your favorite projects to create?  Right now I love making scrapbook layouts as it's the most fun and low stress type of project for me.  I can complete a layout in about an hour and really get into a creative zone while doing it.  If I'm up for a challenge, I love making cards, as I'm always pushing myself to try new things and different combinations on such a small canvas.  And the projects that make the happiest, once they are completed, are my documenter spreads, as it's immensely satisfying to get so many photos and memories onto paper all at once.

Inspired by: All the amazing artists and creatives on Instagram.  I love scrolling through my feed and being wowed by everyone's talent and work.  There are so many ah-ha moments on a daily basis for me just from seeing what other people post, and I love that its all right there in my pocket.

Obsessed with: Other people's watercolor work.  I love watching people work with watercolor and seeing how they manipulate the medium to create such stunning and organic projects.  I think I have a passion for watercolor that I will hopefully pursue someday, when the kids get a little older and I can find more time for my artistic pursuits.

A favorite project:

This is one of my favorite cards that I've created for Studio Calico in the last year and I love how soft yet contrasted it is.  The delicate florals surrounding the crisp die-cut and sentiment makes me supremely happy.

We hope you've enjoyed getting to know these CT members a little bit more. Join us next week to meet four more of our Creative Team members!
