Guest Designer | Janna Werner

We're thrilled to have the lovely and talented, Janna Werner, as one of our guest designers this month, and excited to get to know her better today! Be sure to follow Janna here at Studio Calico to keep up with her and see more of her beautiful work.

My name is Janna Werner. I am a 38-year old mixed media creative & (online) teacher based in Northern Germany. I have a husband of nearly 7 years, his name is Jesper. Together we have three dogs, Monti, Fips, and Luzie. I've been scrapbooking since 2011, have been a member of different design teams, and have taught many online classes and workshops throughout Europe. I published a book called 'Paper Art' in 2014, have co-published a scrapbooking magazine, and designed scrapbooking products.

I have always been a big fan of stationery (it is getting worse the older I get :-) ) and paper. Then a friend introduced me to scrapbooking...it took about 3 months until I got hooked. I enjoy scrapbooking a lot, working with paper and embellishments is my kind of meditation. But I also like to create other crafty & artsy projects, such as paperflowers, gift wrappings, drawings, mixed media canvases or Artist Trading Cards. I call myself a mixed media creative as I love to mix materials and techniques.

When crafting, I mostly get inspired by the material itself - the colors, the texture, the odor and patterns. I try to visualize the result and think about different ways of using the product. Sometimes I would sketch a project in a little notebook. When planning new online classes, I start with a mind map - in the beginning they tend to look like a big and crazy mess, but it helps me to get an overview and class structure.

Through the years, I have met many great people through scrapbooking, had so many great conversations and experiences. I feel blessed to be surrounded by creative, kind and inspiring crafters & artists from every part in the world. Creativity is a gift to me - a way to express myself, to connect with others, to share my thoughts and feelings, to reflect, to plan, to be courageous and to enjoy & remember life.

I really enjoyed working with the Roman Holiday kits. Here's a closer look at the layouts I created with the kits.

I adore the vibrant and happy colors and the encouraging quote washi tape strips in the main Scrapbook Kit.

I love crafting and drawing, so my plan for 2017 is doing more of both. I created this layout as a reminder. I used the January main kits (Documenter & Scrapbook) plus a few more supplies like the gorgeous Moonstruck alphas from the Funny Face Add-on.

Most of the time my craft room is a mess. This layout is a little ironic as the photo shows one of those rare clean and organized moments in my scrap room. :-) I worked with the fantastic January Scrapbook & Documenter kits, and added a few extra stickers from the add-ons. (Did I mention I love the Moonstruck alphas?!).

I am excited to be a guest at Studio Calico this month—a company I've always loved and enjoyed. I hope my projects will inspire you to get crafty with your kits this month!
