so i'm sucked in. a little late to the party as usual but totally invested at this point, ha! i started reading hunger games last week and devoured it and now i'm reading catching fire and it's going a lot slower for me...did anyone else have the same experience? it's kind of bumming me out because i really want to finish it- was catching fire anyone's favorite of the 3? i haven't heard much about this one on the boards (more about hunger games) so i'm wondering if it's just a filler type book for the trilogy?
It was my least favorite of the three, but you do want to get through it, since Mockingjay is worth the wait. I really enjoyed the trilogy, and I'm not a fan of young adult literature. I loved the socio-political themes the book explored too--it was really eye-opening for DD (my 13 year old, who also loves Peeta!).
thanks for chiming in here! it was just weird becuase i was sooo into the first one and then with this one, i have to push through it a bit. it's still interesting, just not that sense of urgency to get to the last page you know? glad to know i'm not alone!
oh and i'm so glad to hear that book 3 is worth the wait melinda! thank you for telling me that becuase it'll keep me on track :) and i love peeta too :)
I almost couldn't tell you where one ends and the other begins because I blasted right through them and loved them all. I can't wait for the movie. The only bummer is I heard the first is 2012, then 2013, and then 2015 before the last. That's one reason I can't do sequels. I didn't do Harry Potter, Twilight, and now this! I actually think it's funny I've read all of those series'. I wouldn't normally be attracted to this genre or subject matter at all. Such well written books.
Love Peeta. Love Gale too for that matter. ::sigh::
dav- i'm the same way, totally not my usual genre. i'm more of a crime/mystery but i ended up reading and loving all the series' that you mentioned :) totally surprised myself.
Finished all three in 6 days. Loved all three. The third book definitely had a different vibe, but I had no problem devouring it. And umm, I was crying so hard reading the last couple of pages, that it was hard to see all the words!
Interesting. Hunger Games was the first book I read on my kindle and it had this sort of futuristic feel to it all together. Catching Fire wasn't available on the kindle then and so it was weird reading the actual book and that, I felt, was why I didn't enjoy it as much. Hmmm... maybe I didn't enjoy it as much just because I didn't enjoy it as much.
See, Mockingjay was the slowest one for me. I really enjoyed the first two and then the last one was harder to get through. I LOVE the series though and I can't wait for the movie. It looks really good!
I read all three this summer in a short time span. I love, love, love adolescent lit (I'm a middle school teacher so it helps to know what the kids are reading, even if I teach math now!!!). I agree that Hunger Games was better, but I loved all three!
i finished the whole series a few days ago and i miss it...i know it probably sounds weird but i enjoyed it so much that i kind of got attached to it, ha!
i have been chasing this book down at the library to no avail!!! it keeps saying there's one there, but no one can seem to find it. :( and now with the upcoming movie, i think it'll be almost impossible to find. i'll have to borrow it from a friend.
I just put the first one on my wish list for download at the library so I can listen to it on my ipod. I am currently number 80 in line for it, I think the movie will have come and gone before I get my chance to read/listen to it !
Not usually what genre I would read either but my DS kept saying I had to read them. So, I've blasted thru THG and CF and now I'm halfway through MJ. Fast reads and each book seems to out do the prior!
Off to go read now. Toodles!
I am not a fan of YA fiction but I LOVE this series - I have read the first two in three days and am now on Mockingjay. I hear quite a few people say they do not like Catching Fire or Mockingjay much but I am just loving it all. I literally cannot put them down!

You can do it! :)
Kinsey - it was definitely a slower read for me too but worth it! You will love the entire series.

I just finished the first one a couple of weeks ago. But with the new puppy I haven't found any time to start the second! :(

Oh and also? Team Peeta.

I read Hunger Games last week in one night... I could not put it down! I just picked up the other two from a friend, I can't wait to get started.

I can't remember disliking Mockingjay but it has been a while since I read them. I want to reread them before the movie!!
keep reading. i read all 3 in the last 2 weeks. slower going for me with Mockingjay but loved them all!

I love this series! I'm thinking about re-reading them before the movie comes out in March.
I'm reading the Hunger Games too. Took me a little to get into it but, I'm more than half way done and I LOVE it!!
