i found it on a publisher's weekly list of best books of 2010 and i DEVOURED it. the end makes it 100 percent clear there WILL be a sequel and i can't wait!!!
I must find out whether DD has read this yet--she's a nut for dystopian literature--Orwell, Hunger Games, The Giver. She'd be one happy reader with this! Thanks Stephanie!
Thanks for the link Stephanie! This looks good - its so hard to find books for my YA son but I know he'll like this because he loved Hunger Games! I think I'll read it too!
I'm reading Divergent right now and still have to read the Hunger Games. I'm sucked into Divergent after just a couple pages so I'll have to add this other one to my hold list too!! Thanks for the recommendation!
I just bought it on Kindle!1 I just finished up a huge amish sequel my mom gave me so I'm ready for a new book! And, I loved the Hunger games so this sounds like I will love it too!
I bought Variant for DD for Christmas. I also saw recommendations on NPR's website for the book, Down the Mysterly River, about a Boy Scout lost in the woods, accompanied by a talking badger. It's recommended for ages 10 and up, and I'm thinking DS will enjoy it, and probably me too!
my 13 yo son loves dystopian and i hate to preread EVERYTHING - so are Divergent and Variant appropriate for that age? he also loved The Roar and the sequel comes out in Feb...
also, one of my favorite dytops - not ya is The Unit by Ninni Holmqvist
oh, and Caz, dystopian is the opposite of utopia - so instead of creating an ideal world it is an ugly world. typically there is some kind of odd world order that is oppressive and dictatorial and extremely harsh. hope this helps.
Another youth dystopian set of novels to read are the "Maze Runner" by James Dashner. I've read the first two - maze runner and scorch trials and have really enjoyed them more than I thought I would. I'm looking forward to the third one.
If you are looking for another reading option-- I'm currently devouring A Discovery of Witches. Definitely in the vampire/witch/supernatural genre, easy read to boot.
That sounds awesome. Another book on the hit list! I spotted a review on Birthmaked by Caragh M. O'Brien and it seemed interesting, has anyone else heard of the series?
adding to my amazon wish list! i have the hunger games, but won't read it til after i watch the movie. i almost always think that books are better, so i figure if i don't read the book first then the movie might seem great... i just started delirium by lauren oliver...only to chapter 4 so far. might finish it this weekend.
you MUST read this book.

Thanks for the suggestion Stephanie. I just placed a hold for the book at the library. Can't wait to get it!!

I love Carrie Ryan (zombie dystopian-ish) and Lauren DeStefano....Her new one is supposed to come out tomorrow!
