finish it. One of my favorite books of all time. It is a testament to human will to live and that God always has a plan. such an inspiring story!
he is actually coming this spring to a local college and I am trying to figure out how to get in to hear him speak!
It was depressing, but also uplifting and inspirational. It truly changed how I think about WWII, and brought home such a realistic picture of those veterans from our "greatest generation."
My grandfather was in the war, and my dad was in Korea, but they kept quiet about the scary parts of the war, and painted a picture for us that was more like M*A*S*H and the patriotic musicals and movies from that era--not the real horrors of war. (Though my dad began telling some serious stories in the last decade of his life.) This book brought the real story home to me.
I think the opportunity to hear him speak would be simply amazing!
Yes! Finish it. I could not put it down. It's a little depressing in sections and horrifying too. BUT, it's such a testament to the will to survive and the ability to overcome incredible odds to keep going. I mean, how much more could that one man take?! But he kept going and in the end does more than survive. He really thrives. It's so inspiring! Plus, I learned so much about the war and what it was like in those planes, etc. Fascinating.
Okay! I have made it passed the sharks and I will pick it up again this weekend. Y'all have totally convinced to continue. Had no idea he was still alive! Checked out some info on him and I am starting to get excited about reading it again.
Part of the reason I put it down last week was because I had such horrid thoughts running through my mind before I went to bed each night last week!
Playing words with friends is such an easier way for me to put myself to sleep!
xo
i have put this on my wish list.100 percent sure that both j and i will love this.
some of our best friends here are edward and kristy graham, edward is billy graham's grandson. he was telling jimmy about this the other day. i guess billy and the man in the book are good friends.
This is one of my all time favorite books! The story is almost hard to believe because he went through so much, but such an amazing reminder of the strength that is in us when needed.

i mentioned on my blog a few times that a book about my grandfather's war story will be published this summer. he was serving in the philippines in WW2 and escaped the Bataan death march and survived in the jungle for three years. he set up and commanded armies with jungle natives until the flag was returned to his commander. i am really really excited to share his story with you all :)
really excited about these war stories coming out into the open and the opportunity to learn and grow from them.
finished, and you all were right, truly an inspiring story , an amazing man to say the least. a hard reminder of the devastating truths of war.

And what else should I read for Christmas Break?
This is on my list (it is a long, long list). My goal is to read 26 books in 2012 (or one book every 2 weeks). I plan on making this one of the first.
It's amazing. Keep going, because it ends up being inspiring rather than depressing.
I agree with the rest of the girls - it is a great read. Truly inspirational!!! I was blown away by what he went through.
