Okay - I'm getting ready to buy. I've narrowed it down to the Canon 60D or the 7D.
I LOVE the 7D and definitely want it - but is it worth almost $500 more??? For me? I really dislike the looks of the 60D's flip out screen and the button positioning. But that's a cosmetic thing.
I'm also a wee bit intimidated by the focusing system on the 7D.
I do a lot of senior photo shoots but I really only do shoots for hire sporadically, and I have no plans to make it a full time thing.
I just keep thinking that if I save the $500 and get the 60D I can get the flash I want too.
I should add that I have a 24-70 lens, so I don't feel like I need to put money into glass right now.
Someone decide for me, please. :)

I love my 7d!!! The focusing isn't hard, you just need to read the manual. And practice a bit. :). I'd go for it!

i want a 7d sooo bad so i'd totally go with that one...it's an investment so if the button positioning on the 60d is noticeable now, it could get really annoying down the road. i'm so excited for you though!

I love my 7D :) No help, I know! Comfort and room for growth were things I thought about when I upgraded to the 7D (I'm not familiar with the 60D. The 7D also has video - i don't use it often but it's handy when I remember I have it at the kids events and I don't have a video camera with me! Good luck!

    Ya'll are not helping!!!
I think what I'm going to do is go 430 EX flash, and the 7D. It's just scary because it's such a huge investment - and I feel like I should spend it on my girls, you know?

Oh, hands down - 7D! Not even a question. Get the best camera that you can afford. And if you can afford the 7D, that's the one you should get!

I really wanted the 7D but it just wasn't going to work for us financially at the time. I have a 50D and love it, but I would totally get the 7D if you can!

7D for sure!! My boyfriend has the 7D and I just love all the quality it comes out with. Our holiday pictures came out so crisp and focused so nicely.

About the focusing system on the 7D, I've only seen my boyfriend use it but I haven't used it first hand. It looks pretty complicated, but it can do so much. The ability to focus on a particular area in a frame is amazing!! I think even though you're intimidated at first, you will grow to love it and own it!!!

A little bit of triva for y'all....... Did you know they shot Black Swan with the 7D?!! Also recently, an episode of House too!

i am in love with my 60d. the buttons were a learning curve but totally not noticeable after using it for a couple weeks. =)

i compared and went back and forth, but in the end, the 7d wasn't enough of a step up for the $$ value for me.

The 60D is a lot lighter, and has a fun incamera filter application (think radlab in the camera) specs wise, the 7d's sensor has more points. That's like 500 extra on a lens. I have the 7d, its great but I still have my second doubts because of how heavy it can get sometimes. I would say test drive both and look at some online reviews at digital photography websites.

I love my 7d, have a 40 d too and the focus id definatelly better..... I bought it for the fps though, and am so glad i did, would never have personally bought the 60d because i don't consider it enough of an upgrade over 40d.....

Definitely the 7d! I Agree with ally, get the best camera you can afford. I read a lot of reviews and the 7d is really worth that extra bit!

As per nail girl and others, buy the best you can afford. If you feel guilty about it, cut out something else in your life that really isn't a "need" but really a "want." I do agree, that you should test drive them and feel the weight of each camera with a lens/es on that you plan on using frequently. I have a 20D that is now 7 years old. When I have my 24-70mm f/2.8L lens on it-it gets REALLY heavy. And that is the lens I use the most frequently. That said, I still plan on purchasing the 7D when my 20D dies. (Of course, by then it may be a 13D-LOL)
    HTH. Happy shopping!
