Is there anywhere you would suggest to get some cute scrapping supplies or go to any classes etc? I live in outback Australia and am going to New York in two months for work ad was wondering if there is anywhere special I can go, scrapping wise?
Unfortunately there's not a whole lot here. There is a great store in greenwich village that I know of. It's called "the ink pad" http://www.theinkpadnyc.com/. After shopping there you can walk to so many places to grab a bite to eat.
HTH There are however tons of art stores & there is a huge Michael's in the city.
Thanks so much for the information. Can you give me the address of the Michaels please. Any suggestions for places to eat especially for a sweet tooth?
there are actually some great stores that i recommend for supplies:
portrait bug - http://www.portraitbug.com/ it's a tiny little store but they have a lot of product in there... like lots and lots of thickers
paper presentation - http://www.paperpresentation.com/ this is my favorite scrapbook supply store. they have a HUGE selection of paper products and a really big scrapbook section. lots of basic grey papers and tons of american crafts supplies, fiskars punches, hero arts stamps, inks, etc.
kate's paperie - http://www.katespaperie.com/ lots of flat sheets of papers and some cute little embellishments.
michael's is at 97th and columbus
i have blogged endless places to eat in the city - http://www.kellypurkey.com/its_me_kp/nyc-eats/ shake shack is my number one recommendation and if you like sweets i suggest levain cookies, big gay ice cream shop, sweet revenge (the best cupcakes), two little red hens, doughnut plant, molly's cupcakes, bouchon bakery, laudree macarons, max brenner's (a must!)
I loved portrait bug, they were small but had a lot in that little space. And Kate's paperie is amazing, love the papers and card selection. I didn't make it to paper presentation. :(
If we're giving food recommendations I would also recommend Sprinkles on the upper east side and check out the waffle truck-Waffles & Dinges. It's a traveling truck and has different locations every day throughout the city but it's amazingly delicious!
There's also the typical cupcake joints like Crumbs, Billy's Bakery & Magnolia.
KP-I've never had 'Sweet Revenge' but I made a note of your recommendations and am totally trying the ones I've never been to next time I'm in the city.
I'm so bummed that the Kate's Paperie up by Central Park (58th maybe?) closed. It was so much bigger than the one in the village and it carried so much goodness for scrapbooking. I was disappointed in the scrapbooking potential for the items in the small store in the village.
But there is a huge gift and art supply store just down from the closed Kate's that has a good amount of scrapbook supplies and lots of other art goodness called Lee's. Right down from Carnegie Hall. (again, maybe 58th and 7th area)
I'm glad you asked this...I didn't know of the others. I'm in Brooklyn. Soon as the wether gets a little nicer looks like I'll be spending a day in the city.

Sweet Revenge are my favorite decadent cupcakes. When I threw my cupcake tasting party a few years ago, they were the winners.
