I JUST now got the Harbor Freight bin thing, and am trying to remember how everyone was finishing theirs. Seems some of you painted yours but some covered with patterned paper and Washi. Would you share how you finished yours? (A pic or link would be good too). Thanks !
I (well my husband) painted it for me. We used the Rustoleum Painters Touch Ultra Cover spray paint in Satin finish. We used 1 can primer (1 coat) and 1 can of the color (2 thin coats) and it was perfect. Here's a pic.
And filled
I love it, it was the best puchase I've made organization wise.
We just spray painted mine too, white enamel. I was surprised how many coats I took to get coverage and had to go back to hardware store for more paint, I think it took 3 cans total
I painted mine. I primed it with Krylon primer and then used Krylon red spray paint (I think it's called cherry red). One it dried and I put my stuff in, I felt like it was busy enough and didn't need washi on the various trays.
Here's a picture of my spinning rack. I followed the instructions that Kinsey gave on her blog and it turned out great... Thanks, Kinsey!! I chose to use black & white damask contact paper so it would fit in better with my room.
If you do decide to paint it. Assemble it but paint it before you stack the layers. It's easier to get the paint where you need it if its not stacked fully.
I just put mine together today.. Left it black, but after seeing the colors, I may need to change it up a bit.
I do like the contact paper idea too.. hmmmm.
Niki, I just checked and the Mr. Huey's only fit on the top part but I am able to fit 10 of them in one section. And I have the 6-section tray on the top.
Mandy: I know Blue Bazaar got them in for awhile for AU$50, but someone in NZ said that postage was more than that )or something along those lines). I see they don't have that now. Didn't get it cos I have enough storage wise, and I'd rather get the Alex drawers from Ikea!! lol..
I left mine black because I'm a bit of a disaster with the spray paint can and after I saw how many (seemed like thousands!) of nuts and bolts that hubby had to deal with to put together, I didn't have the heart to ask him to paint it. I love, love, love the ones shown here, though, and especially the black and white damask contact paper! Mine is really working out well, though. I found stuff I forgot I had, and I'm using inks that I never used, now that everything is right out in the open. Love mine!

Wow ladies! These all look great! Mine is still in the box. Need to paint it as I am not patient enough to apply contact paper.
I really want to put the woodgrain contact paper on the edges of my trays, I just love how Kinsey's looks!
I am lazy and just left mine black. My chair and desk legs are black, so I figured it went with those. ;)
Love the damask!
I just left mine black. But I still love it.

Wow, I have been wondering where these cool things came from when I was looking at scrap rooms, and at that price? Come to mama! lol
Thanks for the tips too!

Can you store the mister huey's on any of the shelves besides the top? I love the looks of these, but I'm afraid I would quickly outgrow them.

Thanks for the painting tips Babz.
