My hubby got me a sewing machine for Christmas and I've used it on almost every single project since I got it! How did I live without it? Anyone else obsessed with sewing on scrappy projects?
I hear ya! I have had a machine for years but never knew how to use it... My sister taught me last week and now I am obsessed with using it on my scrappy projects!
My stupid sewing machine isn't working properly. Stupid sewing machine. I tried to use it on some projects that I ended up more or less ruining, and I desperately wanted more sewing in my december daily, and it's a stupid machine that is stupid and broken. Dumb.
Oh... I want one so bad! I really don't have ANY space for a sewing machine, but was thinking of one of those mini ones. Anyone have a mini one they would reccomend?
I also got a sewing machine for Christmas and it's still in the box. I think I'm a little bit afraid of it, haha, my mom is coming up to show me how to use it.
I had a mini Singer Pixie, that thing was a piece of junk that even my mom couldn't get to work right. She was a seamstress for years, if she can't work with it then the machine has to be junk. Of course I find out after the fact that a LOT of people had trouble with that machine.
I'm new to SC, this is my first post. :) Can you help me with this - when using my sewing machine do I need to worry about the setting? Would any setting work on the pages? I love the look but I'm afraid to just jump in.
Yep, once you get started using one, it's kind of hard to stop! We originally got mine years ago to make curtains with (which I did) but since then, it's been used almost exclusively on paper! I'm so glad we got it back when we did!
@scrappingirl79 - I have a Janome sew mini and I love it. I had never touched a sewing machine before I got it, but it was really easy after watching a couple youtube videos.
i have been wanting to try sewing on my projects for years. i actually did try a few times, but i'm not very good at doing the basic stuff on my machine (i.e..threading the bobbin, changing the settings, etc.), so i just gave up. definitely one of the things i want to learn this year though.
My MIL is a master quilter and gave me a very nice Bernina sewing machine that she was going to sell. I was too afraid to use it because I had never sewn before & it was very expensive so I didn't want to break it. So I went and bought a cheap machine at Target and it took me like 4 years to figure it out. I FINALLY did in November and a few weeks later it broke. I took it to the local sew & vac shop and they said it would be $80 + parts to fix...but I barely paid that for it to begin with. So now it is gone and I don't know what to do. Move on to the fancy Bernina & risk breaking it? Get another cheap machine? I know what I SHOULD do, but I'm afraid.
@Lillian -the machine is meant to be used! Really! I have a great machine and used it for quilting first (great big queen sized quilts). I have had it tuned up only twice in 12 years. Because it is meant for heavy duty use, it stands up well and is well used. Go for it. Really, there's no point in have a great machine collect dust. It really is meant to be used! Go for it! (The only problem I've ever run into involved a large glue dot ;)
I finally broke down and bought myself the Janome Sew-Mini - it's so cute and light and perfect for sewing on cards. I used it on all my Christmas cards even though I really had no idea what I was doing :)
@StephWashburn - I bought it from Overstock.com with a 10% off coupon paid about $53.00. Gina K has very clear youtube videos talking about the machine and how to set it up (perfect for beginners like me!) The machine is very small...

It is addicting. :):)
I was given one a few months ago and it still scares me! I don't really know what I am doing, I just go for it and hope it turns out okay :-)
I got mine a few months ago and I am beyond addicted...then i got a vintage typewriter for Christmas and can't stop using it. have fun!!!

I was addicted to my typewriter too until the ribbon ran out! I just ordered a new one from eBay and I can't wait for it to arrive!

Thanks for any advice you can give me.

I know! I don't know what I'd do without mine!
@KMcMullen - I switch from fabric to paper without changing any settings. Maybe try practicing on a scrap piece of paper or a card or something first?
I use mine on every layout! VERY cool gift! I know you will create amazing layouts with it! :)
What sewing machine do you all use.

Have you tried sewing through thickers? I was so scared and now I do it on every page! Love Love Love!!! I also don't know how I lived without mine!

I sew on almost every layout or project that I create!! It adds just the right amount of texture!

I have heard great things about the Janome Sew-Mini- I'll have to keep my eyes open for one on sale! Thanks, ladies!
