My girls and I will be leaving on Sunday for 3 weeks on Vancouver Island. Because my husband is busy at work he will be staying home. We have an 1 1/2 hour flight followed by changing planes ( with a few hours at the airport) and another 4 hour flight. Lily is 2 1/2 and Piper just turned 1. Any tips on how I can manage this as easily as possible on my own? Thanks so much!
I take loads of colouring, new toys (small ones without lots of bits which can get lost in the plane) and bribery snacks! Stuff that they can munch on and take time. Harder with a one year old though.....I travelled 8 hours with my 1 year old and it was difficult....good if they sleep though. electronic toys are always a winner as well. They engage and also they don't have lots of parts and pieces which go with them so nothing can get lost in the plane or left behind. I got these VTECH computer/ Storio things and took them all out of the packaging, put batteries in and ready to go. We flew 7 hours to Florida last year and they kept my 2 year and 3,5 old very busy! good luck!
How wonderful for you and the girls! Have fun! My only suggestion, which is probably stating the obvious, make sure to bring a stroller (maybe a double, or one with a bench) for the airport/layover. Plus, lots of snacks. Let them eat themselves silly. Full belly = sleepy.

Ali Edwards has a few ideas that I thought were very useful when I traveled with my boys:
