Okay, so by now you guys have probably all seen KP's awesome stamps, no? (If not...they are fabulous! http://kellypurkey.bigcartel.com/)
Here is my question, and don't laugh at me! The only time I've ever heard this particular phrase, it was said was on Toddlers and Tiaras (my guilty pleasure show back when I had cable.) So...according to the all-knowing internet it's like something you say to somebody when...what? They are off to hit on a guy? Off to do something unmentionable?
Like...do YOU guys say this? Is it Southern thing? (T&T seems to take place there a lot.) Because I've never heard anyone say it before! I like it...I might just start having to use the phrase...especially now that I have a stamp that says it! ;)
I've heard it said at the gym, like when we are lifting weights and struggling..."get it girl!" like a "you can do it" encouragement. But maybe that is not what it means!
I've always taken it as encouragement/girl power kind of phrase but I guess it can be taken other ways depending on the situation! If ya know what I mean! ;)
It was also in a song back in the early 90's but I can't remember the name now.
I thought there was a song like Get it Get it Get girl, get it girl, get it girl. LOL Or maybe I totally made that up in my head but I have been singing it since I saw the stamps. Thanks KP lol!
Yeah that's kind of what I thought...like, in terms of my beloved Toddlers and Tiaras, "get up there and do it..." or whatever. But if you google it...
Is there a boy version of this saying? One that I can use on my 8 year old? Just curious. And I love all the stamps, I can't wait for happy mail to come my way.
I think the song "Wind it Up" by Gwen Stefani has "Get It Girl" in it. I just used it recently in my Body Attack class, so unless it was a special mix made for the class, it should be in that song....in case you want to listen to it. :) The stamps are really cool btw.

@Dani, I am old, too! ;) And not very hip! ;)
My favorite stamp is the happiness one, though...it's just sweet!
Shanna, that's pretty much the same song I was thinking of! It was like a hip/hop dance song or something.
Or maybe we are both making it up!
the song from rio has "get it girl" in it..

i think most people use it as an encouragement type thing :)

Here's the stamp in case anybody hadn't seen it... :)
I was about to post the Rio song too. That's the best part of the movie and I was singing it while ordering some KP stamps this morning!
I say this a lot haha. I love how she made it a stamp!
ha ha - i love this thread :)
my friend missy, who is very hipster, started getting me hooked on saying "get it girl" as encouragement. i love how she says it... slow and guuuuurl.
All the gay men at the club yell it at me when I'm dropping my a$$ to the floor or shaking my peaches.
Leslie, have I mentioned that you are favorite person ever? ;)
Oh, and thanks to Toddlers and Tiaras I think you can ONLY say this with a Southern drawl...
LOL!! I didn't understand what's my jam. Ha!! ;)

A phrase I use when shopping with the girls lol just get it girl!!!!!!!!
hahahahaaaaaaaa i want a boy version too!!!! (i'm clueless on hipster lingo tho?!)
I was clueless on these as well. I'm not a hipster saying type of person...or maybe I'm too old. hahaha!
I had no idea what it meant, but like NIcole, I assumed it was similar to you go girl. Think I am going to have to order this one.
