I will be unemployed. Yikes! The first time since I was 15 maybe? Crazy! Our company had to make cuts which meant I'd have to be back in the office 5 days a week (I only go in once now) with a 45min each way commute and more than a 40 hour work week. We just decided because of several factors that it was best for me not to go back.
SO scary but exciting too. It means we can delve into some projects we've been talking about maybe even some crafty projects ;) Still I don't know how I'll feel after Friday!
I have to assure you, that the decision to do so worked really great for me. I had a "normal" 8 to 5 job and almost one hour to commute (one way, 2 hours each day)). When my daughter was born I decided not to go back and that was the right decision so far.Now I am self-employed (is it the right word?) and actually I am working more, but I do that for me and I can organize my time around my daughter's needs and schedule. The money is better as well. Hope this helps and supports your decision.
Well, here's to getting into those projects! Make sure you take some time for you, too. I left a 40+hour job with a hour long commute each way when we had out first child. I had been working since I was 15, too. Definitely a big change. Wishing you the best- I am sure the change will bring you a better opportunity!
It's not an easy decision to make, I wish you the best! Enjoy your time and I'm sure if you want to go back at some point the perfect job will be waiting.
Good luck. This time home with your kids is time you never get back, enjoy it. I bet you will be surprised at how busy you get at home. I would love to be home with the girls, raising them solo it is not an option. I plan to cut down even more in another 2 years to spend even more time with them. Enjoy!
I'm so sorry to hear this news, hopefully you find something else you enjoy. Good for you to make the decision that YOU want, not just go along with what that company wants. For now, enjoy getting your projects done!
Allison you and I are in the same boat, As of Friday I'm unemployed as well. Thankfully, I've had some scrappy opportunites to come my way, that will help fill the time.
Good Luck with your new adventure.
I mentioned on my blog that I also resigned last week from a 12.5 year career. It was super hard and it hasn't really set in yet. I'm looking forward to making my own agenda this summer too! Enjoy it.
I gave up work 7 years ago when I had my first baby and have not regretted it even for one day! You know what they say when one door closes another one opens!

Wow Allison! That is a huge change. I am sure you will be blessed by your changes ultimately, but I can totally see how it would be unnerving.
Oh no....I'm so sorry. But I'm sure with your talent, you'll find something fast!
Totally understand your feelings. Wishing the best four you.

I think you'll love it too!
My only issue is I get distracted easily so I have to keep myself on track to get things done, plus household chores!!
