We haven't done this one in a while, but I get so many great ideas from you all!
I have 2 books going right now. FINALLY reading "The Grapes of Wrath" (I know, a little late!). It's in the car, so I only read it when I'm waiting on the kids. Loving it.
Also reading "BossyPants" by Tina Fey. Laughing OUT LOUD! I love her.
I just finished "The Last Empty Places" where a man went hiking in the "black spots" of America--places where there is no light at night. It's a mix of American history, nature, and adventure.
Now I'm rereading Sherlock Holmes because I'm a fan of the BBC show.
I just finished Gone Girl. Would not reccomend that book though.
I am also trying to make it through Brene Brown's The Gift of Imperfections. I will read a chapter or two and then get pulled away, but I really love the message of not hiding behind your shame, because we all have something.
I'm reading Quiet, the book about introversion, and our culture's focus on extroversion. Good stuff! But, I finished two awesome novels this summer: The Invisible Bridge (about a young Hungarian Jew's experiences in WWII) and Someone Knows My Name (about a young girl kidnapped in Africa in the 1700s, for slavery).
At the moment I am reading Emma by Jane Austen.
Last week I found myself without wifi, facing a four hour flight, and in need of something to read. HO! Look! The complete works of Jane Austen is still on my Nook! So...
Before that I recently read Redshirts by John Scalzi - super fun scifi.
I just started The Reluctant Vampire by Lynsay Sands. It's the 15th book in a vampire series that follows one vampire family through the years. So so so good!
I just finished Divergent and am stuck. I am not sure what kind of book I want to read next. Thinking of trying Discovery of Witches again. I just couldn't read it the last time I tried with the move.
I am reading Shine by Lauren Myracle...I think it's going to be a quick read....so far so good!
I just finished A Prayer for Owen Meany, wouldn't say it was my favorite book of all time. I know many of you listed it as one of your favs. I definitely enjoyed it. I think it would make a great movie!
I just finished The Age of Miracles by Karen Thompson Walker and The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. Am reading the sequel to The Shadow of the Wind, The Angel's Game. :)
I just finished The Secret Holocaust Diaries (interesting read). Before that was Gone Girl (not my fave).
Now I have started Water for Elephants. It was time for a free book from Amazon's lending library and it seemed like a good choice. I'm enjoying it so far.
I am half way through bossy pants and I'm really disapointed with it, i LOVE Tina Fey but i just do not find it that funny, real let down for me to be honest
I am also on the 3rd book of 50 shades for the second time round LOL
After the "favorite book" thread, I decided to reread Owen Meany. I don't know what time it is reading it (fourth? fifth?). Tonya - I think it gets better every time you read it because you notice all the little things that come together at the end. And yes, Simon Birch is the movie version, but if I remember correctly, John Irving was disappointed with it that he didn't want it to have the same name as his book.
I just picked up two books at the library on my way home today - Bossy Pants by Tina Fey (loved her on SNL!) and Dark Places by Gillian Flynn. I loved Flynn's Gone Girl and went back and read her first book, Sharp Objects (also good). I was just waiting on her other book to be checked back in.
I have been in the habit of reading a lot over the past few years, and was bad about just running in Barnes & Noble and buying a book. I am going to try to start using the library more! Then I'll have more money for scrap supplies - right?
@ MelindaM all your books sound great!! but the one that really has me interested is Quiet. definitely going to check it out.
right now i am reading the book of Nehemiah.

A lot of non-fiction for school.
But I'm tempering that with Harry Potter and Temp by AE Meyer (love this book)
I just finished Variant and before that The Selection. Not sure what to read now either...! Was a little disappointed with the end of Variant though.
State of Wonder by Anne Patchett, really enjoying it!

Oh and read Slammed last week. That was great too.
@tonya... I think they did use Owen meany as the basis for the movie Simon Birch. Was that the name of it?
I LOL'd at Bossy Pants too Penny - such a fun read!
I just finished a couple Shadow of Night (2nd in All souls Trilogy) - pretty good
"Still Alice" GREAT book, about a women going thru early onset alzheimer's at the height of her career....really well written...and poignant...
