Laura Kurz from Baltimore, Maryland
You could say that Laura Kurz started scrapbooking when she was just a little girl – stealing the doubles from her parents photo stashes and making collages that lined her bedroom walls, but when she lived in Oklahoma after college her friend showed her paperkins at the Hobby Lobby and Laura’s scrapbooking in its current form began.
Laura’s work can be seen in Creating Keepsakes and Simple Scrapbooks. She was a contributor to the We Dare You: Scrapbook Challenges book and also contributed to Elizabeth Dillow’s upcoming book, The Scrapbooker’s Almanac. She is a member of the Fontwerks and American Crafts design teams and a Garden Girl at Two Peas in a Bucket.
Laura lives in Baltimore with her husband Ken and golden retriever Charmer. When she’s not scrapbooking, Laura is doing her day job in public relations, growing tomatoes in her garden, reading, studying, or watching reality television.
According to Laura:
When I was a child… My photo was blown up and hung in a photo developing store. My dad taught me to love photography!
I can’t imagine my life without… My mom. She’s my best friend.
I would love to win a shopping spree to… Anthropologie (I notice two other guest designers have said the same thing…It’s just such a cool store with clothes, housewares, jewelry, how could you ask for more?)
If I could be anywhere, I’d be… In Bethany Beach, Delaware with my friends and family.
My least favorite chore is… Cleaning the shower!
If I could be on any tv game or reality show, it would be… David Letterman! I have no idea why I would ever be on his show (except for a possible stupid human trick), but I just love the man!
If a mystery package arrived on my doorstep, I’d hope it would be… Scrap supplies, definitely.
My guilty pleasure is… Goetz candies – they are Baltimore-made, caramels with cream filling. Yum.
I thought I would never… Go back to school after finishing college. I was done! But seven years later I’m pursuing my master’s at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore.
If a genie granted me three wishes, I’d wish for…
1. Enough money to be really, really comfortable and be able to take care of myself and my family for the rest of our lives without having to worry about it.
2. My golden retriever, Charmer, to live forever.
3. My parents to be a part of my children’s lives for a long, long, long time.
You would never guess it, but I… Have curly hair.
