Do you have a favourite Dr Seuss book?

I have vague memories of the cat in the hat as a child, but have yet to add any titles to our bookshelf at home.

Can you share your favourites and reasons why?

Thankyou :)

Sneetches.
(explains in an awesome way that just because you may be 'different' doesn't mean that's a bad thing!)

I also like red fish blue fish mostly because of one of the last pages, today was good, today was fun, tomorrow is another one

My kids and I love the basics but a lesser known one is the one about green pants......it's in a Seuss compilation book we used to read to the kids when they were little!

One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish :)

No reason why...just remember from being a kid wanting to read it over and over and over!

I also LOVE "Oh, the Places You'll Go!" I got it as a high school graduation gift. Actually, I think we now own like two or three copies... LOL.

It's my favorite because it's inspirational, and my sister and I used to recite it to each other in high school. And after I graduated and went off to college, I did a collage with photos of the two of us as kids, along with an excerpt from the book... and gave it to her as a gift. (Our cousins did the same thing, and gave us the idea!) She gave it back last year, so I could turn it into a mini-book instead. I should get on that... Wink

Hubby's favorite is "Dr. Seuss's Sleep Book." Apparently, his parents read this to him *a lot* when he was a kid. It's one of the very few memories he even has from childhood, so it left quite the impression! ;-) I read it after he suggested it, and it is pretty cute!

I have two.

As a child I LOVED And to think that I saw it on Mulberry Street.  I loved playing Mulberry street on the way home from town.  I had a very active imaginiation.  We would choose one thing that we saw and spend the next 20 minutes making it bigger and better.  I really missing playing that with my Grandfather.

As a parent, we love I'm not getting up today.  My daugther just laughs and laughs.  She also loves There's a woket in my pocket for all the silly rhymes.  She loves to play with lauguage the way he does in this book.

My sentimental favorite is "Hop on Pop." I really don't like the book and never enjoyed reading it to my kids. But I learned to read from reading that very book. I even remember the day it all clicked for me. I wasn't even in kindergarten yet, but I was just trying to figure out the sounds that each vowel made, and I kept running back & forth from my room to where my mom was, asking her the sounds. Eventually, I had figured out how to read the book.

I was never aware of his books as a child, is that possible?

Byt my favourite - The Grinch who stole Christmas.   (not the silly movie. If you haven't read the book, do yourslef a favour.

Gives me goosebumps e v e r y time I read it!!

Maybe Christmas is something that just happens every year, maybe you can't stop it after all...(or words to that effect)

Just a little interesting aside:   when my kids were little, it wasn't politically correct to read Dr Suess books, because, well, they didn't make sense; & having 2 sisters who are primary school, I obeyed. Anyway, in a desperate bid to get my 3rd chld to be interested in reading, I bought a few books. Best thing I ever did & last time I ever listened to my children about child-rearing!! They just seemed to suit his quirky personality, but the other 3 weren't interested at all.

"I could eat a goosemoose burger, half a pound of frittered flums!!" we had the songbook on the piano! I remember my sister playing it! Mum read most of the books to me, loved the rhyming, sure that's where my love of writing funny poetry came from! When we went to Florida in 2005 it was me who had to go to Zeuss landing, the kids were too old! Lol! I have my cat in the hat toy on my desk as we speak! Bought the CD with that song on too!

We love The Lorax and Did I Ever Tell You How Lucky You Are.  The second one is a great reminder to be thankful in all things and not complain!

My son's favorite is "If I Ran the Zoo" - he just loves the silliness of all the creatures the boy invents and the travels he takes.

Personally, I was always a fan of "Bartholomew's 500 Hats" - just because it was kidna obscure.
