October LOAW #1 & #2 Challenges

We're so excited to start the LOAW challenge on the blog! Below you'll find October's LOAW challenge #1 and #2. If you entered challenge #1 on the Message Board, we have your entry. Post your project in the gallery and copy a link to the comments below. You can enter anytime in October!

Challenge #1

Last week, our member Penny (username penny) challenged you to use the image below as inspiration for your next project. We're excited to feature these weekly challenges from the SC community! Check in each week as one of our members inspires you with a challenge. Be sure to follow Penny here at SC to see more of her work and keep up with her!

In case you didn't know, "LOAW" stands for "Layout A Week." So it's a great way to make some progress on your crafty goals. My progress lately is better described as "LOAQ," as I've done one layout this quarter! But I hope that's about to change. Because I'm hosting the challenges this month and because I'm a much happier person when I'm creating!

For the first challenge this month, use the image above as an inspiration for a project. I got it from a Starbucks email, and I fell in love with the colors and designs. Your project can be a layout, card, pocket page, traveler notebook, planner page, or some other paper craft. You can use the colors, designs, "feel", or anything from this image to inspire you. Post your project in the gallery and then link it up here. It's also great to post the image here, so they're all in one place.

(Side note: I haven't received one of these cups yet. And I didn't get a fall cup last year. I need to get busy.)

Challenge #2

This week Penny is challenging you to use three different elements from her page on your own project.

I made this layout using the Sunday Sketch from October 1st. For your project, incorporate at least 3 different elements that are on my page. Here are some ideas: any color, any embellishment (wood veneer, chipboard, sticker phrases, enamel dots/stars/hearts, die-cut word), coffee, cups, same/similar patterned paper, or any word/theme: morning, move, rough, present over perfect, city/state, music, pumpkin, etc.

Any type of project will do. Post your project in the gallery and copy a link here, listing which elements you used. It should be a new project, made after this is posted, but you can combine with a current blog challenge if you want to. Entries are due by 10/31/17 at midnight.

Now it’s your turn to create a project based on Penny's challenge! Share your new project for the challenge in the SC gallery, then link up your project in the comments of this post by October 31st. Penny will draw a winner to win a $10 gift card to the Studio Calico Shop!

Guidelines for LOAW participants : The LOAW (layout-a-week) challenge came about from members challenging and encouraging one another to use their kits. Because it began before SC offered card and Project Life® kits, the challenge was for layouts, hence LOAW. Since scrapbook, card and PL kits are a part of SC's subscriptions, those types of projects are now included in LOAW. That means you can submit a LO, card, PL spread, minibook, or art journal page to a LOAW challenge. If you have trouble interpreting the challenge for the type of crafter you are, ask the host (person posting the challenge) for suggestions. Sometimes ideas we come up with make perfect sense in our minds, but don't translate as easily as we expect to another type of paper crafting. Each person may submit one unique project per challenge, i.e. you cannot submit the same project for two LOAWs. It's okay to combine LOAW with another challenge, though, such as a sketch or technique challenge. The project you submit should be one that is created in response to the LOAW challenge, which means no posting of older projects no matter how perfectly they fit the challenge. Any project submitted to the challenge should be made in the month of the challenge. Deadline for submissions is the last day of the month. Once the month changes on the SC site, it's too late to post for a chance to win. (I wanted to make note of this because I am a procrastinator and I'm sure there are a few more like me out there doing everything at the last minute.) When submitting a project for LOAW, please include a picture of your project and a link to it in the SC gallery on the challenge thread. Also, if the challenge asks for additional information, e.g. explain your inspiration, please include that in your submission post. SC generously offers a $10 GC to one participant. It's actually a promotion code good for 30 days. The winner's name is pulled from all of the entries. So if you enter one challenge, you have one chance of winning; two entries, two chances; etc. Hope you take a chance and take on one or more of the LOAW challenges each month.

If you already submitted a project for the first challenge and I didn't list it below, would you post a link here? @gluestickgirl knows which entries were already submitted, but I'd love for everyone else to take a look. I can't remember all the entries (sorry).
Since the two challenges are both listed here, please indicate which one you are entering. Thanks!

Penny I am so happy you posted this note; with the taking down of the message board and subsequently Challenge Central I kind of gave up on trying to find October's LOAW weekly challenges.
Yes, I submitted for Challenge #1 but not #2 cause I couldn't find it. Where is it posted now?
      Thanks much.

What a cute card! The colors, the owl, and the doodling are a great take on the inspiration.

Way to use those chipboard pieces! I hope you bought an extra set. That helps me not to hoard them. Thanks for playing. You've been making lots of pages these days.

I was inspired from Penny's layout to use: scripted title, banners and stars.

I lifted @penny 's layout except I shrunk it down to 8.5x11, used a few less elements and a photo collage. Thanks for the inspiration! (LOAW #2)

Penny thank you for the fun Layout for LOAW#2 -- so many ways to interpret it. I used the idea of the photo collage to make watercolored squares picking up some of the colors from the LO. I also used the word 'morning' in my title with a collection of words and phrases. https://www.studiocalico.com/galleries/207599-morning-reminder-submission-for-loaw-2

I was inspired by the orange pumpkin cup for my project for Challenge #1. I got one of these cups earlier but it didn't have one of these graphics, just a floral circle on it and I threw it out! https://www.studiocalico.com/galleries/207607-thanks-a-latte

I'm hoping maybe to finally be able to be able to work on your other challenges, but thankful I got one done!
