Challenge #3

This week, our member Penny (username penny) is challenging you to create a project with the theme "Overlooked, Overdue, Overused." Check in each week as one of our members inspires you with a challenge. Be sure to follow Penny here at SC to see more of her work and keep up with her!

The theme of this challenge is "Overlooked, Overdue, Overused." Incorporate the following elements into your project: 1) an overlooked supply, tool, or technique; 2) an overdue project—perhaps one you've been putting off; 3) a supply, technique, or phrase that either YOU tend to overuse or you see it a lot from others. As an alternative, you could use the word itself (overlooked, overdue, and/or overused) in your title or journaling.

For my card, I went back to the Spaulding Bowl card kit stamps from Copper Mountain (happy sigh). I always forget how much I love it, and I had totally overlooked that it had a "thank you" stamp because I'm always using it for late birthdays! I had also overlooked these Studio Calico clock transparencies. I don't even know when I got them. I'm sending a way overdue thank you card, so there's that. And the enamel dots and grid paper are on my "overused" list. But I'm not planning to stop.

I hope you find some time and inspiration to play along! Post your project in the gallery and then link to it in the comments here, telling us which things are overlooked, overdue, and overused.

Now it’s your turn to create a project based on Penny's challenge! Share your new project for the challenge in the SC gallery, then link up your project in the comments of this post by October 31st. Penny will draw a winner to win a $10 gift card to the Studio Calico Shop!

Guidelines for LOAW participants : The LOAW (layout-a-week) challenge came about from members challenging and encouraging one another to use their kits. Because it began before SC offered card and Project Life® kits, the challenge was for layouts, hence LOAW. Since scrapbook, card and PL kits are a part of SC's subscriptions, those types of projects are now included in LOAW. That means you can submit a LO, card, PL spread, minibook, or art journal page to a LOAW challenge. If you have trouble interpreting the challenge for the type of crafter you are, ask the host (person posting the challenge) for suggestions. Sometimes ideas we come up with make perfect sense in our minds, but don't translate as easily as we expect to another type of paper crafting. Each person may submit one unique project per challenge, i.e. you cannot submit the same project for two LOAWs. It's okay to combine LOAW with another challenge, though, such as a sketch or technique challenge. The project you submit should be one that is created in response to the LOAW challenge, which means no posting of older projects no matter how perfectly they fit the challenge. Any project submitted to the challenge should be made in the month of the challenge. Deadline for submissions is the last day of the month. Once the month changes on the SC site, it's too late to post for a chance to win. (I wanted to make note of this because I am a procrastinator and I'm sure there are a few more like me out there doing everything at the last minute.) When submitting a project for LOAW, please include a picture of your project and a link to it in the SC gallery on the challenge thread. Also, if the challenge asks for additional information, e.g. explain your inspiration, please include that in your submission post. SC generously offers a $10 GC to one participant. It's actually a promotion code good for 30 days. The winner's name is pulled from all of the entries. So if you enter one challenge, you have one chance of winning; two entries, two chances; etc. Hope you take a chance and take on one or more of the LOAW challenges each month.

    @penny, a most unique challenge.
I went through a box of very old photos to find something I overlooked, then decided to make a layout that was overdue.

Overlooked: I never use distress paint! Overdue: I had been wanting to try this technique from a class I am taking for a while. Overused: Nuvo drops, my latest obsession! :D

The drops look like my overused enamel dots. I'd be obsessed, too. This is such a great card!

I started this prayer journal during Lent 2016 as a way to stay more mindful of the season. I promised myself I would continue to add to it, but it often gets overlooked.

I finally used the tea time stamp set (overlooked) and some of my well-loved Brimfield paper (overused) to create a card for a long overdue visit with my best friend. Seriously, I had three pads of Brimfield paper and am down to the last one. I loved the colors!

Here is the project I created in the SB workshop and for this LOAW challenge. I often overlook using paper for creating embellishments for my projects, ie. fussy cutting the leaves from the Gypsy Moon SB paper to create the leaf frame for my project. I also often avoid or overlook sewing on my projects as my sewing machine is down in the basement and I have to walk down stairs while crafting, and I don't like to. I was definitely overdue to get back into my craft room and create, and I stamped my title and embossed, which is my go to technique on almost all of my projects. My hubby and I are certainly enjoying this season of our lives! Thanks for the nudge with this challenge!

What a great challenge! I finally got around to making this layout thanks to the challenge https://www.studiocalico.com/galleries/207750-1st-day-of-school
Overlooked: sewing on a Project, something I never done before and using my stamps, I have so many beautiful stamps but I hardly ever use them.
Overdue: scrapbooking about my daughters 1st day of school. She started at the age of 5 and now she is turning 26 on Halloween, so this project is way overdue.
Overused: I have noticed that I almost always use white cardstock for my background.

Thank you for the challenge @penny!

I just now saw this in the gallery, and the word "Overdue" caught my eye! Great layout! I love library themes, and I wish I had a bunch of real library cards/pockets. A few years ago, lots of book-related craft supplies came out. But real ones are better! Thanks for participating!

Thanks Penny; I agree with you about using the real library cards and pockets. I have a feeling when Libraries went digital many of them were recycled or dumped in land fill sites.
