Video | Using the Hey Girl Scrapbook Kit with Lisa Truesdell

Hey, y’all! I’m excited to pop in today to share a closer look at two projects I made using the "Hey Girl" Kits. The vellum numbers in the Scrapbook Kit were key to my design for both of these projects, so I thought it would be fun to share the two different approaches I took with them.

First up, I knew I wanted to make a page with LOTS of numbers! When I started this one, I initially envisioned using the vellum die-cuts for all of the numbers on my page. Unfortunately, they were a bit too big for that! I toyed with the idea of making this a two-page spread, but I really wanted to use it as the opening page of the album, so that wasn’t an ideal solution. I finally settled on a mix of stamped words, letter stickers, and a few vellum numbers.

I printed a photo for each day/number, and then shifted things around until there was room for everything. On a project like this, don’t be afraid to layer things here and there. As a bonus, when the page is this full, all you really need to do is fill in blank spaces with bits of patterned paper or embellishments and it’ll look great. For my second project, I knew that just one of these large vellum numbers would make a great focal point for a TN spread. It’s easy to shy away from larger elements in a TN, but try embracing them. They can make your spread come together lickity-split!

I typically love doing a full page of patterned paper on one side of the spread, but this bright diagonal stripe from the Scrapbook Kit is really bold, so I opted to just use a strip of it to anchor my photo to the page. I positioned the vellum “2” in the very bottom corner of the right page. It does a great job anchoring the spread and gives me a more dynamic feel than centering the “2” on my page. It also gives me enough room above to add in a stamped title and a bit of journaling without losing the balanced feel of the spread.
