Sunday Sketch | Jenn Picard

This week, our layout sketch is an 8.5x11 layout with a large rectangular photo and small square accents. Our card sketch features a diagonal design and simple sentiment and our Project Life sketch uses two 3x4 cards - one photo and one story journaling card. Get creative and be sure to share your projects here with us! We can't wait to see what you create! Creative Team member, Jenn Picard, is joining us this week and sharing her take on the card sketch! Be sure to follow Jenn here at SC to see more of her work and keep up with her.

Our 8.5x11 layout sketch comes from Maggie Massey's Chi Town layout:

Our card sketch comes from Dana Fleckenstein's Thank You card:

Our Project Life sketch comes from Geralyn Sy's Project Life® spread:

I really enjoy working with sketches as I always find they are great to use as a starting point when I sit down to create. I am sure just like most of you I don't have an infinite amount of creative time, (although that would be nice) so having an idea to start with always helps the process for me. Sometimes my project ressembles the original sketch greatly, other times not at all. That is the fun of using a sketch!

This week I stuck pretty close to the original card sketch, just like the original gorgeous card from Dana, the sketch was perfect to leave pretty much as is. I love the angled paper at the bottom of the card and chose one of the B/W patterned papers from the Carolina Moon Card kit.

I have had the "hello" craft metal die forever and had yet to use it so I pulled it out as I knew it would be a great impact sentiment to place along the diagonal. I watercolored some paper with color theory inks and then cut it out with the die. The Best Stamp Ever set is one of my recent favourites so I made sure to use it on this fun card for a special friend.

Supplies used: Carolina Moon Card Kit, Best Stamp Ever Stamp Set, Hello Craft Die, 6x6 Grid Paper Pad, Color Theory Ink; Inky Black, Blush Crush, Coral Bay, Poppy, Yes Peas, ZIG Watercolor Brush, Heidi Swapp Color Shine Gold Mist

Now it's your turn! Make a project using one of this week's sketches as a starting point, then share it in the Studio Calico gallery. Use the hashtag #SCsketch to make it easier for other members to find! Leave us a link to your project by May 25th in the comments here to be entered to win a $5 GC to the Studio Calico Shop. This week's sketch winner will be announced in the May 30th Layout of the Week post.
