Day in the Life | Allison Waken

Ali Edwards has set aside September 9-15th for her popular Week In The Life project. We've asked five of our Creative Team members to take on a recording and sharing one day with all of you. They'll each be sharing a project, their tips and tricks, and a video. We hope these ideas inspire you as you take on a Day or Week In The Life album!

I love week (or day) in the life projects. I love capturing a period of time in our lives for the purpose of memory keeping no matter how boring. I decided to photograph a day in our life that was supposed to be fairly boring but that turned out to be a fun day!

I made a mini album using pieces from Studio Calico kits using a lot from the Project Life kits. For my day I edited all my photos using the same black and white filter for a cohesive look. I didn't concentrate as much on collecting memorabilia but tried to capture it all on camera instead.

I focused on those bits of time that we tend to forget - before everyone is up and running around, petting the dog in morning, the boys chatting at lunch and dinner etc. This project, for me, is about those little pieces of my day or life that tend to get passed over during normal memory keeping. For a week in the life the focus of morning, afternoon and evening routines can be spread across the week. Since I'm not a big note taker it's important for me to do these projects shortly after I photograph them so the memories of the day are fresh in my mind.

(Supplies: Cards, gold tags, vellum strips - Double Scoop Project Life Kit, stamps, clips, arrows - Mint Chip Add-On, cards - Cards by Kinsey Wilson, paper, alphas, label stickers, gold doily, transparency - Double Scoop Scrapbook Kit, stickers, mini alpha - Marks & Co Project Life kit, cards - Currents Card Set, cards, clip - Valley High Project Life kit, cards - Moments cards, 4x6 more grid cardstiny attacher, StazOn Ink Pad)

This album is sized at 4x6 and I ended up with 14 double sided pages. I've done a mini album the same size for a week as well with more pages but usually less photos per day. You can see the rest of my album in the SC gallery.

@Iry4everyoung and @felicia J I did it in photoshop - resized the photos and then dragged them to a 4"x6" canvas. Do either of you have photoshop? I can walk you though it if you're not familiar or look for another way to print it that way. I have a tutorial on my blog for doing it in iPhoto as well. http://allisonwaken.squarespace.com/allison-wakens-blog/2013/3/15/printing-options-for-project-life.html

Thank you so much Allison for this information. For so long I have struggled with trying to print photos like this, because I love doing mini albums. I do not have photoshop and have not wanted to invest in it, but I plan on trying this tonight on iPhoto.
