Sunday Sketch | Melanie

This week, our layout sketch is a 12x12 layout with a centered design and lots of embellishing. Our card sketch has a random grouping of stitched triangles & our Project Life sketch leaves room for a photo, caption and label! Creative Team member, Melanie Louette, is joining us this week & sharing her take on our layout sketch. Be sure to follow Melanie here at SC to see more of her work and keep up with her.

First, let's look at this week's sketches - our 12x12 layout sketch comes from Guest Designer Wendy Morris' We Are Here layout:

Our card sketch comes from Robyn Werlich's Hello Hooray card:

And our Project Life sketch comes from Nicole Reaves' Week 10 spread:

Here's what Melanie has to say about working with the sketch:

I was really drawn to Wendy's page the minute I saw it in the CT gallery. I love the centered down the middle design, the white space, and her great use of embellishments. My layout is a much simpler version, as I'm a bit embellishment 'challenged' when it comes to adding stuff on my pages. That is not to say that I don't love and hoard them all the same! Lately though, I'm happy with very little on my layouts, but I try to choose wisely- little bits that make an impact and that work with the theme or the photo. I chose to repeat the straight down the middle of the page design, and flipped it so my photo was on the bottom. Since I wanted to keep my page minimal, I lifted the banner accent from Wendy's page and my embellishment 'cluster' ( and I use that term very loosely ;) became my title and focal point with that great metal ampersand and cork letters from the PL kit. FInally, I added a bit of stamped text to the white space on my photo with the BlueGrass farm PL kit stamp, which I'm on love with- the type font is great, and small text is always so cool to add a bit of detail. I think I will be using this particular one a lot.

Supplies: kits - Bluegrass Farm Main kit, Pip add on, Bessie add on, Bluegrass Farm Project Life kit; ink - Staz-on Black ink

Now it's your turn! Make a project using one of this week's sketches as a starting point, then share it in the Studio Calico gallery. Wow, Melanie - this brought tears to my eyes. I recently lost my cat of 18 years and have a pup who I've noticed is going gray in his muzzle. I could totally relate to your story. It was so touching. Love your layout - simple, heartfelt, beautiful.
