Workspace Wednesday | Ginny Hughes

For this week's Workspace Wednesday (and yes, it's a day late - but Workspace Thursday doesn't have the same ring to it!), we've asked guest designer Ginny Hughes to let us take a peek at where she worked her magic with our Blue Note kits.

Hi, Ginny here with you today sharing a little bit of my workspace. I have a mix of old & new things in my craft room (mostly old;) Thrift stores and yard sales are my favorite place to find things. First up is my desk, which is actually 2 old dressers that I pushed back to back. They give me a good size workspace on top and all of the drawers are perfect for storage! Right now I store craft items for the kids and extra page protectors, some fabric and odds & ends that aren’t used very often. I always have my latest Studio Calico kit set up on my desk, but right now I am in full December Daily mode so that is what I have out to use. I know that if I put it away the chances decrease dramatically on having a finished album ;) On the windowsill I keep a little tin where I put my letterpress plates, a few jars for the paint and another jelly jar that I filled up with labels. These are a few things that I reach for a lot and I love having them handy.

Right next to my desk I have a filing cabinet, that thing is a beast, but it has awesome storage and the drawers lock!!! A big plus when little kids start exploring. The top drawer is where I keep all of the messy stuff-ink, paint, embossing powder, mist.

Next drawer down is scissors, pens and most reached for tools. I also keep all of my extra patterned paper, which honestly only measures about an inch in thickness. I really use most of my kits up and I purge anything straight way that I know I won’t use. I also have Cuppa stored there since I have only made 1 layout with is so far. I usually break up my kits once the next one comes, my brain just work better that way ;) I also keep my most used stamps there.

3rd drawer down is for Project Life. Pretty simple and straight forward. Also a some tags and adhesive.

The 4th drawer is just for photo paper and printer ink, I won’t bore you with that :) Next to the filing cabinet I have a cart that I bought at the thrift store for $3.00, did I tell you I love thrift stores?? On the bottom is my Cameo, now that I can keep it out it get used so much more. Second shelf trimmer and a some die cuts and printables ready to be used. On the top is a place to keep my laptop, I am always listening to music while I scrap.

On the other side of the room I have this piece that I got from a used office supply store. I keep my typewriter and sewing machine on top. Please don’t pay any attention to the walls, I am getting ready to put up shelves, so things are a but messy right now.

I also keep washi tape and my current albums here. I have a a few other stamps stored here as well.

In one drawer I keep extra adhesive and ribbon/twine. I also keep my thread here since it is close to the sewing machine.

I have white and kraft cardstock here. I keep some crop bags filled with other papers. One has cardstock that is anything other than white or kraft, it is pretty much just black, vanilla and grey. I need to branch out a little more ;) Another crop bag has all of the specialty type paper like vellum, overlays, glitter paper. Another for letterpress paper. I also have a few paper pads and watercolor paper pads stored here. The other side holds a few punches and a Cuttlebug.

Last but not least I have this filing cabinet from Ikea that I use to store embellishments and alphabets stickers. Again I break up my kits and purge so everything fits right in this filing cabinet.

Thanks for taking the tour. Nothing fancy, but it is functional and everything has a place. I dream of a beautiful craft space like the ones I see on Pinterest, but I like to scrap more than decorate to this will have to do for now!
