Sunday Sketch I Meghann

This week, Meghann (SC username, meghannandrew), is sharing her take on both of our sketches! Meghann's style is beautiful with lots of layers and girly details. We love seeing her work in the gallery and couldn't wait to see her work with the sketches!

First, let's look at this week's sketches - our layout comes from Loredana Bucaria's Hello Love layout:

And our card sketch comes from Agnieszka Malyszek's Love card:

And here are Meghann's take on the sketches:

I loved this sketch, as well as Loredana's layout. I use a lot of layering in my work, so instead of the three vertical elements in the sketch, I began layering different blocks of pattern behind my framed photo. To make sure that my photo had more emphasis, I put the darkest, most contrasting pattern behind my photo frame. To give the layout more of a horizontal emphasis, I 'fussy-cut' flowers from the Dear Lizzy patterned paper and added them to the sides of my photo. I was so excited when I received my Antiquary kit, as Andrew packed it for me & since my last name is Andrew, I knew I would have to use his packing card on a layout. I just trimmed it down and cut little decorative corners at the top before sliding it behind my photo frame. I kept the corner element from the sketch, but added my journaling to that space as well.

Supplies: Antiquary scrapbook & card kits, Blue Note scrapbook kit (labels & stamps), SC wood veneer hearts, Mister Huey's Warm Calico

I used the sketch as a basis for my card, and just added additional elements to the basic idea. I always keep the manufacturer strip from the bottom of my SC patterned papers, so I began layering some of those pieces on the background, as well as pieces from the patterned paper in the kit that I cut down to 1/2" wide. Using the Sugar Rush Love You cut file, I cut the heart card out of the wood veneer patterned paper and backed it with another piece of patterned paper from the kit. I decided the heart needed more emphasis, so I punched holes around it & sewed a simple backstitch with white embroidery thread. The awesome We R Memory Keepers patterned paper from the kit had a lot of different phrases that could be used for a card sentiment, so I just trimmed 'hooray' out of the paper & added it under the heart, finishing off with some puffy heart stickers.

Supplies: Copper Mountain scrapbook kit, Sugar Rush Love You cut file, needle & embroidery thread

We love Meghann's creative take on these two sketches! Thank you for joining us this week, Meghann! If you'd like to see more of Meghann's work, follow her here at Studio Calico and check out her blog.

I really like your take on the sketch @megannandrew and especially how you made the card. I am a huge fan of using paper scraps in general, and this is such a fantastic example of that.

I used the sketch to start my 8.5x1" layout... really... but at the end, the result isn't a evidence...
