Sunday Sketch | Chari

This week, our layout sketch is an 8.5x11 layout with a large photo and bold title. Our card sketch features a simple flower embellishment & our Project Life sketch uses a square photo and labels. Creative Team member, Chari Moss, is joining us this week & sharing her take on our card sketch! Be sure to follow Chari here at Studio Calico to see more of her work and keep up with her.

First, let's look at this week's sketches - our 8.5x11 layout sketch comes from Pamela Baldwin's This Moment layout:

Our card sketch comes from Courtney Kelly's A Note card:

And our Project Life sketch comes from Deb Duty's Captured spread:

Here's what Chari has to say about working with the sketches:

Sketches are one of my favorite things to use to start the creative process. I feel that sketches really work well for getting ideas going because it takes one of the elements out of the formula, the layout. Sketches can be very literally interpreted but for another challenge it’s fun to think outside the box a bit. For me I choose to take the card sketch and turn it 180 degrees. So instead of a flower growing from the bottom I now have a star hanging from the top.

For this card I made the banner, moon and star from watercolor paper so could play with Mister Huey’s watercolors on them. I picked a darker blue background paper to look like evening sky and allow my elements to really pop off the darker background. The sequins, gold floss and pearlized water I used on the moon give this project just the right amount of shimmer and shine.

Supplies: kits - Bluegrass Farm Card Kit, Buttercup Stamp Add-On; dies & stamps - Craft Die & Stamp Set: Stars; paint - Mister Huey’s Watercolor Set; sequins - Color Theory Sequins Pack - 24 Karat; floss - Embroidery Floss: Gold; clothespins - Essentials Wooden Clothespins - Yellow & Orange; ink - Color Theory Ink - Orange County, Versafine Black Onyx Ink; paper - More Solar White, Watercolor Paper; adhesive - Dot Glue Runner, Foam Tab Circles

Now it's your turn! Make a project using one of this week's sketches as a starting point, then share it in the Studio Calico gallery. Use the hashtag #SCsketch to make it easier for other members to find! Leave us a link to your project by April 7th in the comments here to be entered to win a $5 GC to the Studio Calico Shop.
