Weekly Challenge | 3-Part Challenge with Emma

This week, our member Emma (username emma_kw), is challenging the community with a 3-part challenge. We're excited to turn our weekly challenges over to the SC community! Check in each week as we ask one of our members to inspire you with a challenge based on one of their projects from our member gallery!

Last week my mum was going through my albums and made a comment that almost all my layouts are about my son or niece and that there are only a couple that actually include a photo or tell a story about myself. So last Sunday I snapped some shots using the timer on the camera and figured I’d try to make a layout that was about me at that moment. Nothing particularly exciting about that day but then a layout doesn't always need to showcase an amazing event - the everyday works just as well!

By sheer coincidence I happened to be wearing a pink top that day so I set myself a goal to use the papers I always seem to leave to last – pinks! It’s not that I don’t like the colour pink, but with most of my layouts being about my son I find them hard to use (unless my niece is in the photo and then all bets are off!). I picked 4 patterns I liked out of the Office Hours Paper Pad and pushed them around trying to figure out how they would work together. I have a thing for all things triangle at the moment (on top of the star fetish...) so I figured I’d cut them to that shape and alternate the patterns to break them up a bit. Title was easy, that banner fit what I was trying to do with the layout so then it was just a matter of typing up some words to go with the photo! I still look at the layout and all I see is PINK (soooo much pink) but I enjoyed putting it together and trying something a little outside of my “norm”.

I’m so excited to be invited in setting this week’s challenge and would love to see what you can put together following the same process. First up make this layout about yourself right now (whether it be the good hair day you had today, the book/movie you love right now or your favorite part of today). Secondly pick a colour that you rarely use and lastly, combine both of those with your favorite shape at the moment! If you don’t want to include all 3 in the one layout then no worries – pick whichever one catches your attention first and just go with that! I really hope you’ll join in and can’t wait to see your layout! :)

Now it’s your turn to create a project based on Emma's challenge! Share your new project for the challenge in the SC gallery (add the hashtag #SCchallenge to make it easier to find!), then link up your project in the comments of this post by April 7th to be entered to win a $5 gift card to the Studio Calico Shop!

Love this challenge! I used triangles after seeing one of Paige Evans' cards in the Stitched class video. Used pink & green because I never use those together (I overloaded on that duo during the late 80's).

I was so inspired by this challenge. I used navy and green colours I NEVER use, a photo of me and a friend and straight lines (that's a shape right) I love lines...

I so love this challenge - I made two, is that allowed?

I really love circles right now so I put a ton of overlapping circles. I also hardly ever use this orangey red and turquoise colour (especially together) and I love this photo of me and a friend.

    Here's my take - 51 and changing

Who knew you'd feel like you were changing more at 51 than 21? And I was really surprised to find that I rarely used black papers in my projects. Plus I had been wanting to play with triangles and this was just the push I needed. Great challenge @Emma_kw

Joining the party late, but this layout took a long time! This was a really fun challenge. I love hexagon designs in quilting and knitting, so I pulled out my trusty hexagon punch. I don't usually use pink much outside Valentine's day, so I combined that with blue and used my most recent selfie.
