#NSDatSC | Challenge 05 - Sketch It

Our sketches (and sketch challenges!) have been one of our most popular blog features for years. For NSD, we're bringing you an extra layout, card & Project Life® sketch. Please feel free to use any of the sketches for any type of project - we love it when you mix and match!

(Layout Sketch - based on Liz Kartchner's Stars In Her Eyes | Card Sketch - based on Carissa Wiley's You Make Me Smile | Project Life® sketch based on Barbara Picnich's Week 10)

Kelly Noel : I loved the diagonal design of the card sketch and thought it would be fun to adapt this sketch for a layout. I printed my photos and adhered them to an 8.5x11 piece of cardstock. Then I simply cut another piece of white cardstock in half diagonally to "frame" my photos and adhered the 2 pieces on top of the base. To mimic the stars in the sketch, I used a black pen to draw some random circles above and below my photos. Then, I filled them in with my waterbrush and watercolors.

Supplies : kits - SC Sugar Rush Scrapbook Kit, Tabasco Project Life Add-on, Bessie Scrapbook Add-on, Bluegrass Farm Project Life Kit, Report Project Life Add-on, Highpoint Add-on; tag - Studio Calico South of Market; watercolors - Peerless Transparent Watercolor Papers; brush - Medium Watercolor Brush

Shanna Noel : I love making Project Life cards in photoshop and printing them out for the week. When I saw this sketch I thought it would be a perfect chance to play with some of my favorite printables from the digital shop, I love how easily they all work together!

Supplies : Studio Calico Bluegrass Digital Stamps; Studio Calico Sugar Rush Printables from Hello Forever; Studio Calico Camelot Printables from In a Creative Bubble

Maggie Massey : I've seen so many angled pages in the gallery lately, and I really wanted to try my hand at one. BINGO! The card sketch was just perfect for this! I followed the sketch pretty closely...all I changed was the angle of the paper. I loved the sketch's simple, clean look and I thought it was perfect for this photo of my son at the beach. I chose more masculine papers...and chose ones that had more texture or design. I love the way they blend together to give the whole layout a warm, organic feel. Stars are something I LOVE on any layout, so I just kept adding and adding them.

Supplies : Studio Calico Sugar Rush SB Kit – background paper; Studio Calico Copper Mountain SB Kit – patterned paper & woodgrain alpha; Studio Calico Office Hours SB Kit – yellow striped patterned paper; Studio Calico Copper Mountain PL Kit – woodgrain rub-on “THIS IS THE LIFE”; Studio Calico Camelot SB Kit - Spring Sky Ink Dauber; Studio Calico Printshop Vellum Die Cuts – yellow star; Studio Calico Essentials – woodgrain alpha, cork stars, gold foil stars, woodgrain stars; other- vellum

Julie Campbell : Ever since my Morgan kit arrived, I knew I wanted to use the circle stamp & die to make a moon. This sketch gave me the perfect inspiration! I flipped the sketch & used a journaling card as my sentiment.

Supplies : Bluegrass Farm PL kit: journaling card; Pretty Little Paper Pad: striped vellum & gold foiled star bg; Morgan Card Kit Add-on: circle stamp & die; ink: ColorBox Gold Pigment Inkpad; other: gold stars & thread

Barbara Picinich : For someone who doesn't typically scrap full layouts having a sketch sure does help get me going. I loved the diagonal stripe on this card sketch and knew it would be a great focal point to draw your eye in if I used it on a layout. I followed the sketch fairly closely but changed up the main embellishment cluster a bit. I added the vellum bag behind my photo to hold a tag with my journaling. Plus that vellum bag allowed me to get in a few extra glittery gold bits which is always a good thing.

Supplies : Studio Calico Sugar Rush Rock Candy addon – pattern paper, gold vellum; Studio Calico Sugar Rush Gum Drop addon – pattern paper, gold vellum leaves; Studio Calico Bluegrass Farms – scrapbook kit digital stamp brushes; Studio Calico Essentials – gold stars, green hearts; Studio Calico Studio Selections – large white shipping tag, gold doily; other – Silhouette Double Sided Adhesive, Glittery Vellum Bag, green and blue glitter, gold twine, gold thread.

Stephanie Washburn : This sketch is so fun! I used it as inspiration for this card that I created using the Camelot Card Kit. Along the diagonal section, I stamped some floral images to peek out under the die cut scalloped circle. I stamped the flowers off on scrap paper before stamping them on the card to achieve a softer look. I also stamped some flowers and hand cut them to use as accents around the scalloped circle element.

supplies: Studio Calico Camelot Card Kit- patterned paper, stamps, cardstock, rhinestones; ink- Color Theory Something Blue, Blush Crush, Coral Bay, Versafine Onyx Black; digital- Camelot Frames Cut File by Paige Evans
