Member Inspiration | Ali Edwards

We may be biased, but we think we have one of the best Member Galleries on the web - we're lucky to have so many members sharing their talent with us every day! We challenged Creative Team Member Ali Edwards to make a layout inspired by a project from the Member Gallery, and she settled on a gorgeous two page layout by Pam Baldwin.

It's likely not much of a surprise to you guys that I like two-page layouts that incorporate a full-page photo. It's hard to beat the visual impact that comes from an enlarged photo.

On Pam's page I especially liked all the white space on the second page, the enlarged type (part of a phrase) and the stitched circles across the bottom and the top.

With those design elements in mind I looked at my list of layouts I want to make and decided to get the story of Anna's first soccer season into layout form.

As you probably know by now, I like to blog many of my stories first and then turn them into layouts. Why? Usually it's because I get more of the story told since I'm focusing on the words first and then creating a design to fit my words vs. making my words fit my design. Obviously I don't do this for every story or every layout, but the ones where I tell a more complete story tend to be my favorites.

Here's a look at what I came up with:

Supplies : 8.5x 11 Page Protectors; Studio Calico South Of Market Turnip The Beet 12x12 Paper; Studio Calico South Of Market Phrase Stickers; Studio Calico SouthOf Market Star Sequins; Studio Calico SouthOf Market Vellum Paper; Studio Calico Gold Labels from Hello, Hello Main Scrapbook Kit; Studio Calico ColorTheory Ink in Mint Hint; Studio Calico Chipboard Shapesfrom Bonjour Add-On

Wow!! Iam totally blown away of how you use the vellum to help focusing on different parts of the layout. I love vellum but have always found it difficult to use, this really was a mind-opener! I also think it is difficult to attach the vellum in a nice way, maybe you have some tips and tricks to share someday...

I like the idea of letting the number of pages expand to fit the elements (journaling & photos) that you want to include. Sometimes I get stuck by thinking a layout can only be two pages. I've been using pocketed page protectors to gather up extra photos and journaling. I think I'll give a photo collage a try too.
