Weekly Challenge | From the Heart with Danielle
Tags:This week, our member Danielle (username nelle1969), is challenging you to scrap from the heart for your next project. We're excited to turn our weekly challenges over to the SC community! Check in each week as we ask one of our members to inspire you with a challenge based on one of their projects from our member gallery. Be sure to follow Danielle here at Studio Calico to see more of her work and keep up with her!

This layout was created in my head as soon as I saw the photo on my daughter's Instagram. I kept wondering where the time went and how did my baby suddenly become a young lady who was no longer in her teens. Along with that, she was also in the process of getting her own apartment and making other choices, not bad ones, just ones that I necessarily wouldn't make, but supported her none the less. I made the layout so she would know that no matter what she decided to do with her life, I would always be there to support her and that as a mother, I couldn't be more proud of the person she was turning out to be. I also wanted to remind her that while sometimes the world may not always be kind, she needed to remember to "Be Nice" because her words and actions might make a difference to someone else. Something she would tell you she has heard too many times over her twenty years.
My challenge to you this week would be to find a photo that speaks to you immediately and tell the first story that pops into your head/heart. Whether it be a piece of advice, a love note, or just letting your child know that it's okay to make his/her own choices. I can't wait to see what you all come up with!
Now it’s your turn to create a project based on Danielle's challenge! Share your new project for the challenge in the SC gallery (add the hashtag #SCchallenge to make it easier to find!), then link up your project in the comments of this post by August 4th and to be entered to win a $5 gift card to the Studio Calico Shop! This week's Challenge winner will be announced in the August 16th Layout of the Week post.

I totally did that last night before I even saw this challenge. I guess I'll look for another one. Love the challenge!

I find this interesting. The concept in our society that women must "be nice", is a long-held one. It's important that we act as we want to be treated. This is so society moves smoothly, we value our relationships and connections with other people. There's a part of me that observes others have forgotten that, how to do the golden role. I'm not sure what the modern balance is between self expression and silencing oneself. Lovely layout, thank you for sharing.

Great motivation to do a layout that I was putting off. One of my college roommates lost her battle with cancer a year ago. On the anniversary of her death, someone posted a photo of us on facebook that I'd never seen before. I knew I wanted to put it in my album, and this challenge inspired me to write a few things that were on my mind: http://www.studiocalico.com/galleries/132208-friends

I decided to take on your challenge at a rather fitting time, as The Boy was away from me for the first time in awhile and I was missing him. While in this cheesy mood, I was going through photos on my phone and came upon this one that I snapped of him on his birthday just last week, knowing that I HAD to use this on a layout when you mentioned a "photo that speaks to you" and "love note" in the same sentence :)
Here is my final layout:

This layout is about my daughter, 20 years old, who starts a new road in her life and thinks it a little bit scary. http://www.studiocalico.com/galleries/132597-good-things-are-going-to-happen
