Meet the Artist | Jasmine Jones

When I found out Jasmine was designing the free fall printable for our #scinspires contest, I thought it might be fun to do a little interview asking her about her creative process. Let's see how this beautiful printable came together.

What was your creative process behind creating this printable?

When I was asked to create an art print about fall, it was hard to narrow down all the things I love about this season! I began by making a list of my favorite Autumn splendors, knowing that the Studio Calico community all probably love these things, too. Once I had my list, I started sketching out the different words in different lettering styles until they all fit together well. I traced over my pencil marks with a fine-tip marker, and then scanned the final ink drawing onto the computer to add color and texture.

What is your favorite thing about fall?

Oh man, just one thing? That’s impossible. If I had to choose, I would say it’s the feeling that comes when summer says “goodbye” and Autumn says “hello.” If you're anything like me, it makes you want to hunker down in a sweater and wool blanket and drink coffee while the rain falls outside the window - especially if it's pumpkin flavored coffee, because I really do love pumpkin everything!

What about Studio Calico inspires you and why?

I love that Studio Calico keeps us motivated to create! I am also a fellow Project Lifer and I know it can be hard to keep up no matter how much you love creating a layout and documenting life. Studio Calico inspires us by providing a community of like-minded crafters that can all hang out in the same space and share ideas. I know not everyone in my personal life understands my paper crafting obsessions, but you guys - you get it! That makes me want to keep scrapbooking and sharing when otherwise it would be easy to lose track.

Also, I must say I’m pretty excited to start seeing my designs pop up in the monthly kits! Being able to scrapbook with products that I helped design is so exciting for me! Here at the Studio Calico offices, it’s easy to be inspired by the other designers I work with, too. In fact, everyone here is great. It’s like one big happy family!

Is a lot of the text on this print your own handwriting?

Yes, it is all my own handwriting. I just sketched out a few different styles of lettering that I thought complimented each other.
