Weekly Challenge | Cut Out with Aimee

This week, our member Aimee (username Adow), is challenging you to use the negative from a cut on your next project. We love our talented members! Check back each week as we ask one of our members to inspire you with a challenge based on one of their projects from our member gallery. Be sure to follow Aimee here at SC to see more of her work and keep up with her!

Hi there! Can’t tell you just how glad I am to be back hosting the weekly challenge. I was absolutely thrilled when I was asked to create a challenge based on ‘Coffee with Small Child and Large Muffin’, because it’s one of my favourite layouts this year. It has all the hallmarks of my style – a strong colour palette, white cardstock, a photo of Mog... however there is something else that denotes it as mine. I am just going to come out and say it. I REALLY struggle with title work. Thickers are just not my friend and they constantly prove it by showing up in places totally unrelated to scrapbooking. In my year of scrapbooking, I have come up with many ways to dodge this problem. On this particular layout, I used the negative cut I created on the silhouette. This is such a fun and easy technique, used to great effect just recently by Paige Evans too. So here is my challenge for you – I want you to go out and create your own negative cut/title/shape and use it on a page. You don’t need a silhouette for this challenge. A punch or a pair of scissors and a stencil will have the same effect. You could even copy me and rip a chunk out of the corner and back it. The possibilities are endless. I’ll be watching and cheering you on from the gallery. Good luck and have fun!

Now it’s your turn to create a project based on Aimee's challenge! Share your new project for the challenge in the SC gallery (add the hashtag #SCchallenge to make it easier to find!), then link up your project in the comments of this post by December 29th and to be entered to win a $5 gift card to the Studio Calico Shop! This week's challenge winner will be announced in the January 3rd Layout of the Week post.

I used a cutout space from vellum to highlight December on the patterned papers: http://www.studiocalico.com/galleries/148635-holidays-our-house

I rolled back the vellum to show half the photo and hide the wedding gown. I'm placing it on the outside of the pocket but I'm sure it will crease when I close the album. It's the 2x4 card on the right page.
